A new look at the upcoming co-op RPG For the King 2 reveals some awesome new inventions, from land ships that carry your party to magical pets to hired mercenaries. It tells a new plot in which the characters are forced to fight the Queen.
Either way, it’s another chance to control the adventuring party yourself or split it among your friends as you explore the world in turn-based mode and fight alongside each other in RPG combat. It was a fun game. Because it was a lot like the goofy exploration that happens in tabletop co-op RPGs.
Best of all, the new combat system is more detailed. Rather than his standard JRPG standoff from the first game, this one seems to have each party of combatants standing in front and behind a grid. A touch of tactical detail is welcome. Perhaps a more customizable system would allow IronOak Games’ designers to keep their feet off the murderous difficulty accelerator from their first outing.
The Resistance trailer also touches on the return of Hangman, the truly gigantic jerk we all hated in the first game. Seriously, that guy sucked and I’m not happy he’s back.
With a little twist, For the King 2 can now be played with 4 players co-op. It is really a pity. Maybe they will create two more games and call the last one “4 The King”. I want it

Reviewed for the First King (opens in new tab) Back in 2018, I loved what I found. Nearly five years of mostly derivative roguelike RPGs have only improved my opinion of it.
“It really mimics the feel of a tough co-op tabletop game, where you fight games for every inch of success, even compared to modern hits in the adventure genre like Legends of Andor. It takes a strategy to succeed.” Brain-burning coordination and problem-solving skills that take into account all available resources and factors, and the distribution of that work among multiple co-operating players is very satisfying. It was a blast,” I said at the time.
