Undersea cities don’t have the best track record. The lost city of Atlantis, the dangers and disasters of Sealab 2020, and of course, Andrew Ryan’s turn of Rapture into a violent theme park full of psychopathic slicers can’t help but think of Bioshock. Children of vampires giggling.
But why not give the undersea city another try?Undersea city builder aquatico (opens in new tab), the surface of the earth has become uninhabitable (it’s certainly hard to believe), and humanity is forced to start over on the ocean floor. A new in-depth gameplay trailer from publisher Oiser Games, which you can watch above, shows the different systems and methods you’ll use to build a thriving underwater civilization in Aquatico. Maybe the 4th time will be a charm?
Things aren’t as simple as they seem, as everything the city needs, like oxygen, electricity, and oil, needs to be transported via pipelines to all the different buildings. A blackout not only means the lights go out, but it also means the temperature plummets as you’re surrounded by dark, frigid water. And no need to elaborate on the importance of maintaining the air supply. Aboveground cities may suffer from pollution and traffic jams, but bursting pipes rarely suffocate their citizens.
Construction materials such as iron, glass, and plastic can be collected from the seafloor, traded with other subsea bases, or manufactured in your own industrial buildings. I think it’s great that the plastic that we carelessly dumped into the ocean for decades is still available.
You can use your fleet of water drones to perform jobs like construction, gathering, and even food production, but don’t forget why you do all this hard work. to support the population. That’s where the submarine dome comes in, along with Aquatico’s multi-level building system. A giant dome filled with oxygen would be placed on top of a busy network of factories and pipelines for human citizens to have homes, feed their families, go to restaurants, schools, churches, and the world on earth. You can enjoy all the comforts.You can also have pets, and people can catch a glimpse of dogs and cats walking under the dome.

The depth of the ocean is still largely unknown, so build submarines to explore the abyss and find new resources, find lost human settlers and bring them back to your city, or create mysterious new forms. You can also discover the seabed of life.
Aquatico will be released on January 12th (opens in new tab), there is a free demo that you can play before release. I played it back in September of hers and enjoyed seeing the elaborate building and animation, chilling sci-fi soundtrack, and my little submersible.
