April Fool’s Day is a strange day for anyone dealing with PC gaming hardware. You will be accused of joke products and game press releases and trailers. The weirdest thing is sometimes you look at a joke product and think, “Damn, I’d actually buy that.” Well, Corsair decided to send me an April Fool’s joke .
Corsair calls the FT 100 Keycaps “elite tactile distractors.” It replaces the more useless keys (looking at you, SCRLK) with more practical ones like full-size fidget spinners, knobs and dials.
Inside the package are 5 fidget friendly keycaps including a fidget spinner, small dial, on/off switch, trackball and super clicky buttons. So, of course, you’re worthless as a hardware writer without trying out these silly keys and jokes.
i thought i have Moved from fidget spinners many years ago (opens in new tab), but I’ll admit it feels good to have one on your keyboard, especially during long meetings. I attached a big spinner to her ESC. The build quality of the keycaps seems fine, but we did have an issue with the fidget spinner occasionally popping off the keyboard after more intense spins. what can I say? I am extremely fidgety.
I like the feel of tiny trackball keycaps on my fingertips and the flicking of light switches on and off. The dial and clicky button keycaps are weak keys and don’t give you the same level of satisfaction as other keycaps. If you plan on annoying people, the clicking keycaps are nice and loud, and the fidget spinner is really good Really big spin and nasty hum.
FT 100 keycaps may not actually be for sale. If I had to sit near a colleague using this, that might be a good thing, because they are no longer my colleague.
But I’m still mad that Corsair didn’t sell the giant fans they made for Fan Week. (opens in new tab).
