Children, are you ready? SpongeBob is back on screen in a new Fantastic Adventure! SpongeBob and Patrick travel through different Wish Worlds, each with its own setting and rules, such as the Jellyfish Fields of the Wild West and the rocky bottom of Halloween. We unveiled our gameplay for the first time at the THQ Nordic Showcase.
What was the game’s elevator pitch like?
Create a new spiritual sequel to the fan-favorite remake Battle for Bikini Bottoms: Rehydrated. His 3D platformer focusing on themed worlds, funky costumes and SpongeBob and Patrick’s Buddy Bunter. Focusing on SpongeBob as he travels through the Wild West, the Middle Ages, prehistoric times, and more has always been core to the game’s vision. And from the beginning, the idea was to have Patrick as your constant companion in the form of a cute balloon.
Was it always certain that a sequel was in the cards?
Greening off a new project in the world of SpongeBob is a collaborative process with highly collaborative friends at Nickelodeon who know the franchise inside and out and make the final decisions. Ultimately, the success of Battle for Bikini Bottoms: Rehydrate and the enthusiastic support of its fans has allowed Spongebob to send his Bob and Patrick on another great adventure!
How will the game evolve or change gameplay from its predecessor?
Battle for Bikini Bottom had three playable characters: SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy. Each has one or more special abilities. In The Cosmic Shake, Sponge decided to focus on his Bob and give him many new abilities, such as flying karate kicks and being able to roll over large rocks. Unlocking SpongeBob’s dozens of cult his classic his costumes is also a central focus for the first time in a SpongeBob game. Run around like a knight in shiny armor or in just your pants, it’s up to you!
And last but not least, the world of themes. Playing with a vial of wish-granting mermaid tears, SpongeBob inadvertently ruins the very fabric of the universe. As a result, Patrick turns into a balloon and our hero must travel to a strange Wish World to bring back his friends and restore Bikini Bottom. , saving Pearl from the medieval Sulfur Fields…every world is unique and has its own story.
Tell us about the gameplay levels seen in the showcase trailer.
The trailer gives us our first look at the multiple worlds that SpongeBob and Patrick will travel through in-game. It starts with a boss fight with giant Gary at Halloween Rock Bottom. Then join the heroes searching for Squidward in a prehistoric kelp forest. This kicks off some funky kah-rah-tay action at Downtown Bikini Bottom. And finally, the Wild West gives us a glimpse of Jerry Fishfield.
