At the Federal Trade Commission hearings on Microsoft and Activision, exclusivity was a big topic for many of Microsoft’s games. This is, of course, The Elder Scrolls 6 PS5 The port has not yet been decided.
Xbox CEO Phil Spencer reportedly spoke about this at the hearing. IGN. He said only that the platform is “difficult for users.” [them] According to Spencer, this is likely due to The Elder Scrolls 6 being released more than five years away.
“I think there was a little bit of uncertainty about which platform it would launch on, given how far the game is,” he said. “At the moment, it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly which platform the game will launch on. As I said with The Elder Scrolls 6, it’s too far away, so at this point it’s hard to say which platform will be released. It’s hard to even fathom what it’s going to be, the same team that’s finishing Starfield when it launches this September.”
It’s also possible that a new console will be out by the time The Elder Scrolls 6 is released, so it’s entirely possible that the game won’t ship on this generation of hardware. Xbox even said during these hearings that 2028 is the year it expects to launch new hardware, creating an eight-year gap between generations. As Spencer noted, Bethesda Game Studios is still trying to ship Starfield and will probably support it for years, so there’s still a lot of unknowns.
Spencer also said he “made a public statement” at the hearing. [saying] The Elder Scrolls 6 will skip the PlayStation,” but then he says he doesn’t remember saying that, which makes it all a bit confusing.
Spencer has previously hinted that the RPG will skip the PlayStation platform in November 2021.
âIt doesnât punish other platforms, just like I believe basically all platforms can continue to grow,â Spencer said. “But to be on Xbox, we want to be able to fully package everything we have. That would be true when we think about The Elder Scrolls VI. Considering that, it would be true.”
Xbox keeps MachineGames’ Indiana Jones games as exclusives, but The OuterWorlds 2 is still up in the air, as is The ElderScrolls 6. When talking about The Outer Worlds 2, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty said Microsoft tends to keep franchises on the same platform his family, and this means his PlayStation players may miss The Elder Scrolls. I said I meant high. However, final decisions on these subjects seem far away.
