messenger of books
“The Book Courier skill line is primarily designed around dealing damage to enemies,” explains Wheeler. “There are different abilities here too, some for area-based effects, others focused on specific targets.
During design, the team knew the Arcanists needed to stand out, so they focused on themes of cosmic terror and the Black Book of Hermaeus Mora, opening eerie portals to various powers.
“Some abilities have a very crisp and precise look, while others are more chaotic and intuitive,” Wheeler says. “In our testing, we saw players loading Arcanist abilities across their action bar, so we wanted to make sure this skill line had a wide range of supporting visuals.”
If there’s one ability that really sets the tone for the Tome Herald skill line, it’s Fatecarver, which makes great use of the class’ new combat mechanics.
“We wanted players to be able to channel pure esoteric energy into a beam and aim anywhere without the need for a target, while also being able to interact with the new Crux system,” explains Wheeler.
“The more Crux you have, the stronger the beam you hit when you cast it.”
healing runeform
“Curative Runeforms add healing and support to the Arcanist suite of abilities,” says Wheeler.
“Similar to the Herald of the Tome series, you’ll find great synergies here combining single-target and area-based healing. Also like the Apocrypha Gate, which grants mobility via a pair of portals. It also combines some new toys that are cool.”
Being able to quickly identify what heals and what hurts is very important in intense combat, so the team decided to keep their damage and healing skill lines clearly visible while having common origins in Apocrypha. Did.
“This skill line has a less ‘brutal and chaotic’ look and embraces the watery or inky feel of Apocrypha,” says Wheeler. “For example, Arcanist Domain has a watery edge to its abilities, while also displaying cool animations when flying runes.”
Soldiers of Apocrypha
“The Soldier of Apocrypha skill line is primarily focused on taking damage and surviving,” Wheeler explains. “But there are also some utility and support abilities that help control the enemy. This includes some shield abilities called ‘living buffs. These buffs are more than just stat bonuses, they can also damage or heal enemies in response to enemy actions.
With this focus, you’ll enjoy a lot of quick-fire and self-focus abilities along with clown control when welding the Soldier of Apocrypha skill line.
“A tank’s primary job is to absorb enemy damage into itself while protecting allies. So we gave Arcanist Taunt. It’s the first time it’s been given a function.” The ability to taunt your enemies is crucial, but so is surviving the inevitable onslaught that ensues.
“Runspite Ward is one of Arcanist’s standout abilities because it provides a huge boost to defense. One of the morphs for this ability, Impervious Runeward, provides even more armor in the first second. and gives you an opportunity to time your timing for maximum damage mitigation and retaliation.”
unknown power awaits
Of course, this is just a quick introduction to some of the magical powers available in the all-new Arcanist class. In addition to his three unique skill lines mentioned above, the Crux system allows him to further enhance his abilities and customize how he plays.
