Episode 6 on HBO Last of Us Open in the dead of winter, the pure white snow transforms the show’s stark, drab apocalyptic landscape. But that’s not the only new thing. It introduces a delightful couple who steal episodes with their surly charm in a snowy setting.
A couple played by acting celebrity Graham Greene (dance with wolves) and Elaine Miles (northern exposure), only showing up for about five minutes, but they’re making the most of it. Their chemistry as a couple Marlon and Florence is off the charts, and it’s easy for them to joke with each other (and Joel and Ellie, unwanted visitors to their snowy cabin) are absolute It’s a pleasure.
Joel and Ellie stumble upon their cabin on their way to Wyoming and are looking for directions to contact Joel’s brother. When Marlon, who has just completed a successful rabbit hunt, enters the cabin, Florence quietly informs him that the two of them are not alone, as he clearly knows they’ve been together for years. I can see it. Moments like that, and Ellie’s laughter sharing her teenage energy, speak for more than words and successfully fill in the years spent together for the viewer.
The jokes also keep coming, relying on their particular relationship and the way they needle each other to bring that much-needed level of relationship to the show. I ask him if he didn’t shoot him. She said silently, continuing to rock her body in her rocking chair. By the way, he didn’t hurt me. ’” Marlon says, “Yeah, I had eyes.”
Joel then congratulates Marlon for finding the perfect place to hide during the apocalypse, but Marlon says, “I’ve been here since before you were born.” Stay away from everyone. “I didn’t want to,” Florence quickly snaps, followed by an exasperated sigh from Marlon, telling me that this is a conversation that has happened over and over again. It’s a wonderful window into a way of life unlike anything we’ve seen before. Last of Us, it was full of cruel and selfish people for “survival”. Marlon and Florence remind us that there are other ways to live with each other and the world around us. Joel and Ellie are learning again when they catch up with Tommy and Commune. What you value in life is up to you.
The pair yell, “I’ll get them in the summer,” as Ellie grows fireflies. Ellie quickly replies that she is “a person, not an insect.” Her wide-eyed Florence says, “There’s a firefly person???” Before both Marlon and Florence explode in infectious laughter. This is reflected later in the episode when Ellie reads her diary from before her apocalypse to being a teenager.
It’s especially striking how Green and Miles are in the spotlight in this scene. Last of Us It’s a quiet moment where Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey can hang out and do their own thing as performers. When they allow it, they have a captivating screen presence on the show (this episode in particular stands out for Ramsey), but they get closer to what Greene and Miles are grappling with here as Marlon and Florence. Their specific chemistry and light-hearted, moody sense of humor reminded me of my grandparents. It’s one of the only moments in the show where I felt like I recognized the characters as real people we could meet in our world. It makes sense.
sometimes, Last of UsThe desire to fit the entire first game into one season of television necessitates that things move quickly, so the rapid pace can undermine the show’s character. Sometimes you can see that. This was his one for the latter, but Mr. HBO, I’m not happy. Graham Greene and Elaine Miles quickly green light the moody show in the woods.
