The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has one version for the Xbox platform (works on both Xbox Series X and Xbox One). However, like many other games, the PS5 and PS4 have separate disc versions. Get the PS4 disc and you’ll be able to play it on both PS4 and PS5. Naturally the PS5 disc will not work on his PS4.
$60-$70
Lord of the Rings: Players who want to dive deeper into Gollum’s vision of Middle-earth can pick up the digital-only Precious Edition for $70 on PS4, PS5 and Xbox, and $60 on PC. This version includes the base game plus the ‘Art Expedition’ app with over 100 sketches and other behind-the-scenes details, a lore compendium, and the official soundtrack featuring the game’s music. There’s also a Sindarin voiceover DLC expansion that adds Elvish dialogue spoken in authentic Sindarin, one of the languages JRR Tolkien created for the series.
This action takes place within the Fellowship of the Ring storyline, but corresponds to a story told only through Gollum’s eyes rather than following Frodo and his friends.
Gollum’s lack of familiarity with swords and bows means you’ll find yourself sneaking around in the shadows instead of jumping headfirst into battle. If you’re good at things and don’t want to be noticed, you should pay attention to each step. There are also a series of narrative sequences that can change the game based on your dialogue choices. It arrives on the 25th of March, so we won’t have to wait too long to get hands-on experience with the latest LOTR video game.
In the meantime see our list The best Lord of the Rings games of all time. We’ll see soon if Gollum’s Adventures joins the list.
