Riot Forge announces new spin-off of hugely popular MOBA league of legends today. The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story launches on Switch (and other consoles) in Spring 2023. This is a stunning “high bit” pixel art action RPG created by Digital Sun, developers of the equally gorgeous Moonlighter.
Teased in Riot Forge’s “The Year Ahead” trailer, The Mageseeker is you as you build an army of rogue mages to revolutionize the Kingdom of Demacia. Set in the world of Runeterra, where certain magic is forbidden, you will embark on a journey of revenge as the mage Cyrus.
That’s pretty much all there is to go on at the moment, except for a short snippet of gameplay seen in the trailer above, but it looks a lot different than other League of Legends spin-offs. As demonstrated with Moonlighter, Digital Sun’s strengths in beautiful pixel art seem to be fully demonstrated here.
Aside from that, Digital Forge also revealed the release windows for two other League of Legends games coming to Switch this year, making 2023 a breakthrough year for the franchise. CONVERGENCE: A League of Legends story by Double Stallion Games (Speed Brawl) launches in Summer 2023, while a League of Legends story by Song of Nunu: Tequila Works (RiME) is coming to Switch in Fall 2023.
