After collecting feedback from The Sims 4 Dear players, we have made some major changes to the Xbox version of the game.
By popular demand, we’ve reverted some previous changes to build modes and made other improvements. Most of these improvements are related to controller buttons. We strived to make button functionality more consistent across different game modes to create a more seamless playing experience. New features include:
Bumper button function
Previously, bumper buttons had different functions depending on the mode. In CAS (Create a Sim) the button toggled between sims and in live mode it adjusted how quickly time passed.
Now the bumper button will toggle the sim in both CAS and Live mode. Game speed in live mode can be adjusted with triggers.
Change build catalog
The build catalog now minimizes when you select an object to place. This will allow us to see more of the current build when deciding where to put new objects.
Returning to the build catalog will now automatically return to the last referenced object. This makes it easy to return to previous work and speeds up the building and decorating process.
Rotating Objects in Build Mode
Windows, doors, and tiles were rotating differently than other objects in build mode. I used Y instead of left and right bumper buttons. Changed this to be more consistent with how other objects are handled. Now you can rotate them using the left and right bumper buttons just like you would rotate anything else.
Instead of rotating doors and windows, you can now place multiple doors and windows using the Y button. For tiles, use the Y button to toggle between placing a single tile or tiling the floor for the entire room.
Toggle cursor mode

Added many new shortcuts. For example, in CAS you can press the directional pad up to jump to the ID panel, and press the directional pad down to add or remove Sims from your family.

Once you’re comfortable with these changes, we recommend going to the ‘Miscellaneous’ section of ‘Game Options’ and enabling ‘Show Control Legend’. If you don’t like the on-screen prompts, you can also press L3 to bring up the controller overlay. Cleaned up controller overlays so they don’t show excessive or incorrect button callouts.
In addition to these improvements, this update also fixes a number of bugs affecting Xbox players. For example, you can now resize objects in build mode.
