One of the most unusual stories of the year so far was The Witcher 3’s nifty next-gen update that not only polished the game to a mirror-like sheen, but also gave a select group of monsters detailed vaginal models. Four characters suddenly possessed an anatomically accurate Nether realm (a Crookback Bog clone who looked more like a Victoria’s Secret model than a clone, and a vampire-like Brooks). I noticed that there is CD Projket Red didn’t seem to know why.
When we first reported on this, PCG’s Josh Wolens speculated about possible causes (opens in new tab): Various communities have created mods that CDPR has integrated into newer versions of the game. CDPR is currently Confirmed in a statement to Kotaku (opens in new tab) Villain’s Vagina is derived from a mod called HD Monsters Reworked (HDMR), ostensibly intended to add more realistic textures to the characters in the game, but it also incorporates parts of another mod. It turned out that there is
“At the time of signing the copyright transfer agreement in 2021, the author of the HDMR mod confirmed to CDPR that he was the sole author of the mod in question,” CDPR said in an emailed statement. . “The HDMR mod author has granted her CDPR rights to use the mod and has received credit and compensation for that work. Please contact the HDMR mod author for clarification.” bottom.”
It turns out that the creator of Vaginas for Everyone was asked for permission to incorporate it into HDMR in 2019, but received no response. “author [of HDMR] Apparently it was nevertheless using my mod textures for his/her own mods. [and] Also, the HDMR mod description page never mentioned it or gave it any credit. ”
This… actually explains a lot. The author of the HDMR mod is Denroth. NexusMods HDMR page, there is no mention of incorporating Vaginas for Everyone in the description (it’s standard practice to explicitly credit mods that incorporate other mods not only because it’s correct, but also for compatibility ). So this seems to be a case of one modder being a bit unscrupulous and hoping no one would notice.
It didn’t work. The creator of Vaginas for Everyone hasn’t received compensation for including the work in the new version of her The Witcher 3, but frankly says “I don’t care.” Well, definitely mod did the job. CDPR has announced their intention to remove all offending content from the game. (opens in new tab).
CDPR said: “The removal of these elements was not intended as a statement against nudity or adult themes, nor is it an attempt to maintain visual consistency across all character models containing these textures in-game. That was the plan from the beginning.”
What’s always been a little unsettling about this is how it’s been localized to a select few female characters rather than the broader changes to the game’s cast. If you’re going to give male and female characters new hairy genitalia, that’s one thing, but if it’s just four attractive female character models getting highly detailed vaginas, it’s a lot different.
