Following recent reports, CD Projekt RED has confirmed that The Witcher multiplayer game, codenamed Project Sirius, has not been cancelled. However, the game is back to the drawing board, indicating it won’t be released for a long time.
The Witcher multiplayer game gets a ‘re-evaluation’
In a recent earnings call, CD Projekt RED CFO Piotr Nielubowicz revealed that Project Sirius has been “insourced,” suggesting that The Molasses Flood is still working on it. He indicated that the studio was not happy with the direction the game was going, and that CD Projekt RED wanted to cut costs early.
“To stay competitive, we have to keep looking for new ways to grow our franchise,” said Nielubowicz. Said“At the same time, even if development work is already underway, we must be ready to re-evaluate the original concept.”
Nielubowicz was responding to stakeholders who expressed concerns about the project. He admitted that it wasn’t “great” to hear that the game would be rebooted, but said, “Especially with a project new to us in terms of design, development, it’s important to maintain control and stay on the right course. It was a necessary decision for our family’s new studio.
Project Sirius’ platform has not been announced.
