During Netflix’s Tudum livestream, the company gave us a release window for The Witcher season 3, set for summer 2023. Although we didn’t see a full trailer or much new information, the company did see Freya her Allen while filming her Ciri. I’m looking forward to seeing the action scenes on board.
That’s a much shorter wait than the two-year gap between The Witcher’s seasons 1 and 2. Season 2 production took place early in covid-19, so the short gap here makes sense. What you have accomplished is impressive.
Season 3 appears to follow the events of the Witcher saga’s second volume, “Time of Contempt,” broadly, but there are already quite a few divergences from the source material—Yen and Geralt appear outside at the beginning of the book. It’s out, but on the show Geralt, Ciri, and Yenn have just wrapped up Season 2 and are ready to tackle the world together.
A previously released synopsis from Netflix showed the trio returning to the mages’ home of Arethusa and embroiled in political strife, but the existence of the Thaned coup in Season 3 has been confirmed. I don’t have the book yet, but I know the real thing.
It will be interesting to see how the show handles or rationalizes the remaining three books after Scorn: Baptism in Fire, Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake.
