Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is currently in beta and accessible to anyone who pre-orders. So everything about it is subject to change. If you don’t care about the launch roadmap, there are quite a few changes. Still, many people are already playing, and we are among them. Here are some possible heresies to help you survive in the Tertium Hive.
You can buy what you can’t use
Jody Macgregor, Weekend/AU Editor: If an item for sale in the Armory Exchange is greyed out, it means that it exceeds your current trust level and cannot be used.it doesn’t mean you can’t buy that. If you don’t want to risk finding a real nice piece of kit and being cycled through the shop (which refreshes every hour) before you’ve earned enough tokens to buy it, bag it now! please.
And if you run out of tokens, you can always earn more by collecting old ones you no longer need. Select something in your inventory and hold x on your keyboard to recycle it for a few hundred Grim Dollars.
If you’re not feeling the psyker, you’re not alone
Fraser Brown, Online Editor: I absolutely had to try this brain-popping killer after seeing how much Sean enjoyed Psyker in the previous beta. You are a psychic sniper and are always on the verge of losing your shit and exploding. Because it creates danger every time you use power. This is a critical resource that you want to keep low.
Unfortunately, last time Psyker was deemed too strong, Fat Shark was overcompensated, brain popping generated more danger, and Ultimate discharged only half of that. hot fix (opens in new tab) We’ve rebalanced Psyker a bit, allowing the class to shine in certain situations, but it definitely requires a different path.
Remember that every weapon has a special action
Wes Fenron, Senior Editor: This is something we tend to forget from Darktide’s quick training mode. Every weapon has an alternate ability, bound by default to his one of the extra mouse buttons. With Ogrin’s starting gear, you can use the barrel of your shotgun for a bash attack, or wield a melee weapon to deliver a massive slap across a line of enemies. With some weapons, this alternate ability is especially useful, such as spinning the blade of a chainsword to deal more damage. I need to get my chainsword back.
Jody Macgregor, Weekend/AU Editor: Some of Ogrin’s hand-to-hand weapons perform Mouse 5 uppercuts that stagger enemies, making them easier to kill under heavy hits. Great for killing melee elites.
The Veteran Sharpshooter’s rifle, on the other hand, has a lamp that lights up when you press a special action key. It’s a common joke in 40K that the Lasgun is basically a flashlight, but in darker levels that light is pretty useful.
Rise and (meat) grind for weapon practice
Jody Macgregor, Weekend/AU Editor: After completing the psychic tutorial, there is a menu called “Meat Grinder” that cannot be accessed until trust level 2 is reached. Then go back to Saichanium’s Cephoni. Because the meat grinder is a safe place to test new weapons. Unlocks against enemies that do not counterattack. Learn each new ax and sword combo chain, practice throwing grenades, and get used to kicking from big guns. You can also see that after each hit he has a DPS (damage per second) number that pops up.
In the meantime, practice shooting armored enemies to see which bits are the most protected. Chain wearing a welding mask helmet Scab with his ax Her Maurer does not take much damage when aimed at the head. Unless, of course, you’re a psyker, in which case no amount of metal will stop your brain from popping. .)
Stay close… really close
Sean Martin, Guide Writer: Staying together has always been important in Vermintide 2. You never knew when a dastardly assassin would jump on your back and need to be blown away by your teammates. Darktide has even more special enemies that can catch and pin you down, from charging mutants to net-launching trappers that can wipe out entire teams if left alone. We have to watch each other’s backs. But unity plays an even more important role in Darktide. By replenishing toughness, it becomes an effective shield against damage. You can replenish this shield with melee kills, but the Dark Tides are very difficult to face on their own, so stay close to your team and replenish your toughness.
Jody Macgregor, Weekend/AU Editor: Consistency keeps Aura feats working as well. For example, the Veteran Sharpshooter feat Scavenger Hunt gives away free ammo for each Elite killed by anyone within Coherency range. Other classes have similar passive his auras. Stop talking about passives, Wes…
learn passive
Wes Fenron, Senior Editor: All character classes in Darktide come with a number of passive abilities that guide your character in how they play and their role in your team. For example, Ogryn inherently has 25% of her buff to melee stagger damage, making her ideal as a close range and personal bruiser. But more important is his passive his skill Loyal Guardian. This allows you to take damage unhindered while reviving allies. Reviving an ally in an intense firefight can make the difference between loss and survival.
Veterans deal increased damage to weak points and hit big boss enemies. Preacher survives special attacks, allowing him to gain temporary invulnerability once every 90 seconds. No matter what class you play, remember how these passive his skills benefit you and your team.
wounds are not healthy
Jody Macgregor, Weekend/AU Editor: Health is represented by rows of white bars, with harder missions having fewer bars. (Toughness, the protection that replenishes when getting melee kills or staying consistent with allies, is the blue bar above it.) These bars are called “wounds” and are revived by allies. Each time you come back later, one of those scars will turn purple and be lost. Corruption obtained from carrying a grimoire or receiving certain attacks, such as Poxhound attacks or Poxburster explosions, also chip away at them, gradually turning their health to purple.
If all wounds turn purple, or if you don’t revive in time when you fall, you will be captured. Other players can still bring you back, but they’ll have to fight a few guards and untie you after finding out where you’re being held. Please be gentle with your local surgery personnel.
do not pursue penance
Jody Macgregor, Weekend/AU Editor: Okay, I want to take off my prison pants. However, it is a bad idea to pursue cosmetics and achievements in an attempt to acquire all penance. Some of them are a distraction from completing the objective, and are best tackled with friends (or bots, if the single-player mode arrives) rather than with a group of poor Landos. is a waste of time chasing you until you reach level 30 and unlock endgame feats.
Take the penance of a veteran sharpshooter who demands that you kill five tagged enemy weak points in a single volley. (Go ahead and take the others.) One of the veteran’s level 30 options is called Counterfire, which allows you to tag scab shooters with basic rifles, plus We all want killshot duty pants right now, but unless you fluke it, than waste time and effort. However, it is better to wait until level 30.
