Veteran voice actor and screenwriter James Carter Cathcart, best known for the anime series Pokemon, has decided to retire after undergoing aggressive chemotherapy for cancer.

“Jimmy has decided to retire from scripted adaptation and voice dubbing for Pokémon USA, effective at the end of Season 25. Row.”
Cathcart provides the voices of iconic characters such as Professor Oak, Team Rocket’s James and Meowth, and Gary Oak. As such, he is one of the few voice actors to have been involved with an anime franchise since his 1998 western debut.
In addition to his work on the Pokémon anime, Cathcart has also provided voice-over work for a number of video games, including Super Smash Bros. Brawl, PokéPark Wii: Pikachu’s Adventure, Shadow the Hedgehog, and more.
