This Imperium-scale event features incredible content that immerses players in the world of Warhammer 40,000. Five new tanks, two new 3D Hero Commanders (with exclusive voiceovers), and a limited-time community event are all available to those sworn to protect the emperor.

“Fidelity was the most difficult aspect,” says Burr. “Warhammer 40,000’s tanks and commanders are so detailed that it took a lot of work and a lot of communication with our partners at Games Workshop to get the details right.”
Andy Dorizas, Art Director of World of Tanks Modern Armor, spearheaded the effort to faithfully recreate these tanks on the battlefield of the 20th century. However, Dorizas is quick to admit that this was not the work of one of his. “Commanders and Tanks was a large group project spanning four continents and took several months,” he says. “The Warhammer 40,000 tank was a real exercise in accuracy.”
A special part of this task was to recreate the Astra Militram main battle tank, the Leman Russ. It required a certain amount of creativity as it was a tank exclusive to World of Tanks Modern Armor and not available in other games in the World of Tanks family.
“We studied the physical tanks so carefully that we were able to get it exactly right,” Dorizas explains. “We then had an artist translate our concept into a game-usable geometry. Once we had a model of the Leman Russ tank, we could do what fans of the model do every day: I painted the tank to match the colors.”
But Dorizas and the team didn’t stop there. “Of course, we added a ton of wear and detail to make the tank look…improved combat. Added collision and balance parameters. bamYou can drive Leman Russ in our game. ”
Commander

Much like tanks, these animated 3D commanders had to take great care to bring them to life.
” [3D] The Commander model went through several iteration sessions to make sure all the details were correct. Then here he was textured and painted by our talented artists at Wargaming,” says Andy Dorizas. “Then we did a special motion him capture session just for these commanders and the animators really enjoyed their demeanor.”

The project was narrated by game industry veteran Jason “Jay” Bohan.
