Hello, this is Tom Heaton, Game Director of The Devil In Me. Today we will talk about the inspiration for our game, especially his enemy Granthem Du’Met.
The Devil In Me tells the story of a group of filmmakers making a documentary about an American serial killer. They are lured to a hotel on a remote island, trapped and hunted by an HH Holmes-inspired serial killer.
HH Holmes was born in 1861. He was active in Chicago during his 1890s and was named after the World’s Fair, also known as the World’s Fair, which was being held in Chicago at the time. By the time Holmes arrived in Chicago, he already had a shady past. There are suggestions that he is a qualified doctor and made money by digging up graves and ransacking morgues and selling corpses to medical schools. He also had a complicated personal life. His business associates, wives and girlfriends had a habit of disappearing, often leaving one HH Holmes with a significant amount of money.
In the frenzied and energetic years leading up to the Columbian Exposition, HH Homes built a hotel to accommodate the enormous crowds that flocked to the spectacle. It was his huge three-story building that occupied an entire block. The first floor contained an elegant reception area, bar and pharmacy. We had a room on the 3rd floor. But the second floor was unique and dangerous. After Holmes was arrested, investigators discovered that it consisted of secret corridors, hidden rooms, trapdoors, torture chambers, and rooms specifically designed to murder people. In the basement was a table for chopping up and dismantling corpses and acid tanks to destroy evidence in the cleanest way possible.
Holmes approached the task of murdering people with intelligence, enthusiasm and creativity. He experimented and refined his technique. He was ruthless and very ambitious. He was too much for poor Ruby, who showed up at his hotel hoping for a little comfort while soaking up the glory of the World’s Fair.
When the team at Dark Pictures looked around for inspiration for a potential serial killer game, HH Holmes stood out as someone who provided a compelling and unusual template for how serial killers work. I got
We meet Holmes in the prologue of The Devil In Me. He welcomes a pair of naive honeymooners to the splendor of his hotel. He is classy, charming, and not a little condescending. His mind is vigilant, calculating, and watching, figuring out the best way to get rid of these innocent people and prepare the hotel for the next guest.
Granthem Du’Met, the modern-day antagonist of The Devil In Me, is HH Holmes’ obsession, building his own modern-day murder castle. He’s inspired by Holmes’ methods, but he wants to beat the horrendous kill numbers. Some sources say Holmes had nearly 200 victims of his, so it’s Big question. He’s also inspired by his 19th-century world of HH his Holmes, and how he dresses on set, the costumes he uses, and what he plays when finishing his next victim. You can see this in your favorite music.
Whereas the threats of previous Dark Pictures games were psychological and supernatural, The Devil In Me’s threats are more grounded, more intimate, and only human. At first it may seem like a limitation, but this human intends your death. provide it in a unique way.
We’ve had a lot of fun designing these deaths, getting into the warped, brutal headspace of obsessive killers and trying to be as innovative and creative as HH Holmes. Cloisters of the Modern Murder Castle of Grantheme Dumet.
Walk slowly and keep looking behind you. If I hear classical music, I am very worried.
