The holiday season is approaching. It’s finally time to kick back, relax, and start playing games. But instead of catching up with some 2022 releases, December brings us nostalgia for the tried and tested game. If you’re digging up a Christmas tree older than me and trying not to look at your bank account as you organize your presents, it should be filled with celebratory cheers.
So this week, we’re taking a look back at TheGamer for games that just scream “Christmas.” What’s your favorite game to play while on vacation?
fable 2
Rhiannon Bevan, News Editor
Christmas is cozy, none More comfortable than wrapping yourself in a blanket and starting something else fable 2 keep. A lush and inspired visual that has aged very well, it feels like waking up on Christmas Day when you see the snow falling on Bowerstone Old Town. Instead of a present, you get a lifetime of trauma and a quest for revenge. Good stuff. Outside of gaming, wearing this will always remind me of sharing a controller with my brothers on Christmas morning, running around and slaughtering entire towns. Everything about Fable 2 is the perfect Christmas game for me, no matter how morbid.
Yakuza 5
Justin Reeve, News Editor
i was always a big fan yakuza franchise, but in my personal opinion Yakuza 5 is the best entry in the series, especially since the game takes place at Christmas. Surprisingly few, and that fact makes Yakuza 5 even more special. You can play around with the environment if you’re interested, but the game also includes various side quests with holiday content, so if you’re adventurous, you can absolutely get into that spirit. Season. If you clear the game, there is also a yakuza pole that will always be held at Christmas.
red dead redemption 2
Vaspaan Dastoor, News and Evergreen Editor
What’s the hurry? have to go somewhere Sit back and enjoy some dark flavored coffee. Dutch and Mika are waiting for you at the same place. Until then, go fishing, hunt giant bears, rob trains, and kill O’Driscolls. Nothing to worry about.
And don’t forget to bribe your local post office to stay on the nice list.
Christmas Nights Into Dreams
Joe Parlock, desk editor
This may have been just a demo disc for NiGHTS on the Sega Saturn, but I don’t have a favorite game as a Christmas tradition. Every year around Black Friday I think ‘I’m going to get another Saturn so I can play the original instead of the re-release without the Sonic mode…’ and look at the price and decide.
Whimsical, festive, and 90’s gospel-inspired Dream Dreams, Christmas Nights is probably the best Nights game and the only one I replay every December.it’s the only actually It’s the Christmas-ish game on this list so far, so it wins the Big Question of the Week.
Die Hard (Famicom)
Branden Lizardy, Evergreen Editor
Everyone loves to have that old debate about whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Why can’t the original NES game do the same? It makes it a little harder to judge that it’s based, and the music isn’t either. Not bad for a Famicom game. Is it a Christmas game? No, it’s not. I’m here arguing with people about insignificance. And isn’t that exactly the holiday season?
SSX3
Lu-Hai Liang, News Editor
Tricky is still my favorite, SSX In the series, nothing beats snowboarding down a mountain on a giant run that takes over 25 minutes. With SSX 3, EA Big has reached the pinnacle of great snowboarding games. I remember finding his first SSX in a PS2 magazine just in time for Christmas. It was the first winter I spent with his PlayStation 2. vibes. SSX 3 is still one of his best games and a great way to pass the time.
dead rising 4
George Foster, Chief News Editor
One of my biggest shames in gaming is that I don’t care dead rising 4 so much. It’s a far cry from the first game’s masterpiece and its brilliant sequel, but it’s a pretty fun time just to think of it as a spin-off of sorts rather than an entry that might have killed the series. is that it’s set in Christmas, so there are lots of different themed weapons and outfits. Willamette really captures the feeling of being in his Christmas shopping center. Running around in a Santa costume and killing zombies is a guilty pleasure that comes back every December.
