If you’re familiar with most games, chances are you’re playing a game that belongs to a lesser-known, established series. That’s a concern for the next release Plague Story: Requiem On October 18th, the series expanded three years after the first part, Innocence, which started it all.New and existing players alike may wonder what to do Requiem define itself in relation to InnocenceI am happy to shed some light on this subject today.
Hop in!
players can enjoy Requiem without experiencing the events of Innocencethat’s what we’ve been working hard on. Requiem in the continuity of Innocence, resumes the story familiar to existing players. However, we’ve been dedicated to making the game accessible to audiences completely unfamiliar with the series. Requiem is yet another experience rooted in Innocence, with plenty of novelty along with its next-generation experience. It’s a real shame that we can’t welcome new players to join us.
welcome a new audience
The idea was to introduce all the characters, give them their current life, let the player meet these characters and find out who they are and how they are related. There is no formal introduction for Beatrice. It happens organically. Just make sure the opening sequence has all the elements you need to understand the existing dynamics. For example, the fact that Lucas is Beatrice’s disciple is known from their interactions.

Complex lore to present
The hardest part to introduce to new audiences was the lore. Innocence, has mysterious and almost esoteric elements that are hard to grasp. You cannot export everything from one game to another. So it was very difficult to find a way to keep new players from getting completely lost. In particular, I needed to clarify macula (the disease that affects Hugo) and its consequences.
welcomes familiar players
These tweaks risked negatively impacting familiar player experiences. This is one of the challenges we faced. As I said before, I tried not to get bogged down in formality when reintroducing key elements. This prevents the feeling of repetitiveness for familiar players and allows them to enjoy the opportunity to reconnect with characters and the world without being thrown too deep.
Same World, New Dynamics
We have always sought the right balance between these two audiences, with the goal of creating something organic and offering a radically new experience. This is our way of including familiar players: giving them more of the same world without having to repeat what they’ve already done.
Take the mouse, for example, the mouse is still a central element of the game.they come back Requiem Familiar players expect them. But it should still be exciting. So they invade at certain times and under certain conditions, but how they are treated is not repeated. Innocence It’s something we’ve been thinking about for a long time! It guides the entire production.

Fresh start
In addition to renovating existing elements, Plague Story: Requiem It brings in a whole new element. The game as a whole has radically different dynamics. In the first game, Amicia and Hugo’s adventures were set locally, in their home region, and their motive was to flee the Inquisition. Requiem A journey to discover Provence, a region of new possibilities, in search of the prophesied island. You can introduce new characters with new personalities and create dynamics that never existed Innocence.
Amicia and Hugo are no longer known to the local population. They’ll either have to face that hostility or accept their help. I have.
Amicia and Hugo’s quest is both an inner journey and a struggle to survive the traumatic events they face. InnocenceThis allows the past and present to merge to form a coherent whole, a story in which the past echoes but never paralyzes. This applies to both heroes and players.
