The Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection should be a slam dunk, as classic game compilations are often. And in a way, it is just that. But some interesting decisions take us from a great collection of great games back to simple games. good A great collection of games.
Actually have that thought. Are all these games great? The answer to that may depend somewhat on your nostalgia. There are 6 games (a whopping 21 variations overall), so sorry if I can’t go into each one. You can search past WB games on the site.
The original Wonder Boy (1986) is a title that honors the gamers who launched the franchise. Even if you’re new to the series, chances are you’ve played the debut. Adventure Island, anyone? This is not the last instance of his WB the game is virtually Adapted and ported under a different name. The reasoning behind this is both intriguing and confusing (at least when I experienced these games as a kid… Just kidding, I not yet confusing), but that’s another story. Wonder Boy is the most expressive platformer in the collection, a lively, challenging and fun game. Personally, I love seeing his SG-1000 port in action with choppy flipbook presentations.Additional weird naming, Revenge of Drancon is another game I remember as a kid on Game Gear. mining Stop exploring unique ports or settle for just one definitive version, this game is a classic.
Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair (1988) is what drew me to this particular collection because it’s less widely available than some other WB games. I missed this on the old Wii Virtual Console. That version was based on Monster Lair from his TG-16 CD, which I remember as a Duo owner. Unfortunately that version is not in this collection (there is no PC Engine version). The Genesis port is fun, but I’m still waiting for his CD-quality soundtrack. Either way, this auto-scrolling platformer/Shmup hybrid is underrated and the co-op is a ton of fun. So grab a friend for some good old fashioned fun.
1994’s Monster World IV (with the Wonder Boy moniker removed) featured a new character, Asha, who captivated me with her cute, flowing animation. The platform here is tight. Combined with clever combat, creative design, vibrant colors, and more, this might be my favorite game in the collection. remakeThe plot is mixed, but the catchy music never gets old. I played a lot of Genesis back in 1994, so how could I miss out on a game of such quality?Like the original Wonder Boy, this was an early release as well. WB Collection.
There are problems out there that cannot be pretended not to exist. You may remember “Perfect Wonder Boy Package” It was released on Nintendo Switch in less than seven months. Now we have a more expensive collection with some system ports still missing. Put a damper on what could have easily been recommended.
Without a doubt, I still recommend this as a good collection wholeAnd there are tons of extras like art, scans, maps, and more. I always prefer other user interfaces over ININ. Thanks for the means to remap the controls. We recommend that you take advantage of this.
It’s hard to ignore the fact that this is more expensive (which still feels incomplete) in addition to the shadow of the previous collection from just a few months ago. Get the Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection on sale because there’s a game.
