Yooka-Replaylee announced for Xbox Series X|S
The remaster packs in the original game, which sees the loveable lizard Yooka and their purple bat friend Laylee embark on a colorful 3D-platforming adventure to take down the villainous Capital B, along with a full visual makeover, a host of gameplay improvements, and even a new orchestral soundtrack based on the original game’s score. Playtonic also says that “owners of the original Yooka-Laylee on Xbox will be entitled to an owner’s discount at launch.”
According to a post on Xbox Wire, Playtonic has given Yooka-Replaylee a “full visual upgrade covering every single art asset in the game along with a complete UI and HUD refresh.” The world will be more populated than in the original game too, with new enemies roaming around, even more collectibles to find, and even more challenges to complete. A new currency called Q.U.I.D.S. can also be found, which you can spend in an in-game store for various items.
As for other improvements, the world map has been overhauled, and the in-game helper Mark the bookmark will now act as a fast-travel system within levels. You’ll also notice that double jump has been removed, with Yooka and Laylee now being able to jump that same height with just a single press of a button. Playtonic says it’s “All to ensure a better gameplay flow for the players,” which also includes improvements to flying and swimming.
As a side note, those of you who also enjoy playing on Nintendo Switch might be interested to know that Yooka-Replaylee appears to be the first game to mention “Nintendo consoles” in the press release — did someone say Switch 2?
