In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, put a clip on your weapon, turn off voice chat and get ready to do what would definitely be considered a war crime. (opens in new tab) (It’s from 2022, not the original. Yes, I’m still pissed at the way these are named) Multiplayer “Free Access” Week (opens in new tab)gives you the chance to try out some of the multiplayer modes without spending any money.
Starting later today. 10am/1pm/6pm BST, and ends simultaneously on April 26. I don’t know if the game will be smart enough to download only the parts it can access, but you probably want to set aside around 125 gigs.Space (recommended space requirements for the game vapor (opens in new tab)) to make sure.
For some reason, Activision did not make the entire MW2 multiplayer service available during the free access period. Instead, you can only access the following 12 modes.
- Gunfight
- ground battle
- intrusion
- team deathmatch
- hard point
- control
- confirmed kill
- grind
- gun game
- infected
- one in the chamber
- all or nothing
Gunfight is a 2v2 mode, Ground War and Invasion are much larger, with dozens of players each, and all remaining modes are 6v6.
This isn’t a bad service, but it means you won’t be able to access modes like Free For All and Search and Destroy if you’re on the trial period.
These modes span 10 maps for free access players. The details are detailed in the bulleted list below.
- 6v6 map: Farm 18, Chute House, Shipment, Dome, Himmelmatt Expo, Pelayo Lighthouse
- shootout map: Alley, Blacksite, Exhibition, Shipment
- Ground War/Invasion Map: Santa Seña
Free access begins just one week after Modern Warfare 2’s Season 03 update (opens in new tab) It’s meant to give you a chance to try out the new season’s offerings.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 currently sits at mixed review scores on Steam, but PCG’s Morgan Park rather liked the latest entry in the series, released last year. Modern Warfare 2 review gave him 83% (opens in new tab)Morgan wrote:
