What happened in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild?
One of the big selling points of Breath of the Wild is that you can do whatever you want, in any order. While this was certainly a nice mechanic, it made it a bit harder to create a cohesive story timeline of the game’s events.
So, starting with the Prelude event, which takes place many years before the main game begins, we’ll summarize what happened in as close to chronological order as possible (if such exists).
10,000 years ago
Calamity Ganon
10,000 years before the events of Breath of the Wild, Calamity Ganon launched war on the entire world in an event known as “The Catastrophe.”
Seeking to stop the evil ravaging their land, an ancient tribe called the Seekers built an army of mobile weapons (Guardians) and four massive fortresses known as Divine Beasts, and used them to face Ganon. I stood up from
The attempt was a success, and the Sheikah and Hylian armies were able to contain the calamity and ushered in an era of peace.

champion
This peace was maintained until Calamity Ganon’s resurrection was prophesied 100 years before Breath of the Wild.
With this prophecy as a warning, the Roam King of Hyrule begins a search of Ganon’s imprisonment place, where he discovers Divine Beasts. To prepare, we assembled a team of champions.
This team included Princess Zelda and Link, with the former supposed to learn her magical abilities, which were said to be a definite asset in the fight against Ganon. Even so, Zelda was unable to unleash that power.
That is, until then…
Resurrection of Ganon
Yes, just when the princess was about to give up, Calamity Ganon revived and took control of both the Guardian Army and the Divine Beasts, killing the four heroes and the King of Rome in the process.
In the final hour, with Link mortally wounded in battle, Zelda unlocks magic and temporarily confines Ganon to the boundaries of Hyrule Castle, while Link is sent to the Temple of Resurrection to recover from his injuries. was given.

“Get up, Link”
A whole century later, Link is awakened by a mysterious voice and realizes he has lost all his memories. Discovering the Seeker Slate (a tablet created by an ancient tribe that can grant the user various abilities) at his bedside, Link leaves the Temple of Resurrection and travels to Hyrule, which has been plagued by monsters and malice for the past 100 years. Escape. .
great plateau
In this opening area, the Great Plateau, Link is greeted by a mysterious old man who teaches him how to use his newfound Seeker Slate and then gives him a glider.
After following the old man’s instructions, Link discovers that this mysterious figure is actually the spirit of King Rome, whom Link is the last remaining champion to help Princess Zelda keep Ganon at bay. explain that we must do everything in our power to save the past century.
To do this, Link must remove Ganon’s four divine beasts of malice and use their powers to save Zelda and put an end to the calamity.
Note. The rest of the game can be done in any order and can include any number of the following divine beast quests. The events are presented in order of first play, but your experience may vary depending on where you first venture.
Zora’s realm
In order to free the Divine Beast Vah Ruta, Link heads to Zora’s realm.
Here he is greeted by Prince Sidon of Zora, who explains that the divine beast threatens to destroy nearby reservoirs and flood all of Hyrule. Link agrees to help, recalling his past relationship with Mifa, Zora’s champion.
Link boards the Vah Ruta and sets out to restore the fortress’ control panels before fighting (and defeating) Waterbright Ganon, the force behind Beast’s submission for the past 100 years. In doing so, he releases the spirit of Mifa, who promises to help Link in his fight against Ganon, and targets Varuta’s attack at Hyrule Castle to prepare.
Death Mountain
Link your adventures to Death Mountain, Goron’s home base, where he must confront the Divine Beast Vah Rudania.
Heading to nearby Goron City, Link discovered that the Divine Beast was behaving erratically and was interfering with the residents’ mining operations. to calm the Beast, but it hurts his back and he needs to get Yunobo, descendant of the Goron champion Daruk, to do it for him.
Having thus fired the Yunobo and sedated Va Rudania, Link boards the fortress and successfully defeats the parasite Firebright Ganon, freeing Daruk’s spirit in the process. He also promises to assist Link in his battle, and prepares for the Divine Beast to attack the castle.
gerudo town
Link heads into the desert to the town of Gerudo, home to an all-female tribe of Gerudo warriors and the Divine Beast Vah Naboris.
Link disguises himself in women’s clothing and helps the tribe leader, Riju, recover the stolen Thunderhelm from Iga’s lair, before reaching a dysfunctional fortress that is spewing lightning across the land.
The Iga are a clan of banana-loving ninja-like warriors who hide their Gerudo helmets in the desert. Link is able to infiltrate the camp, defeat the group’s leader, Master Koga, return Thunderhelm to Riju, and grant access to the region’s Divine Beasts.
Link restores control over the beasts, defeating Thunderbright Ganon and reviving the spirit of Gerudo Champion Urbosa as the guardian of the fortress. Urbosa tells Link not to feel guilty about the group’s failure to stop the resurrection, and prepares Vanaboris’ lasers to attack.
Lito Village
Link heads to the village of Rito in western Hyrule to help the bird-like inhabitants who are trying to stop the aerial attack of the Divine Beast Vah Medoh.
Here, Link remembers Rito’s hero Revali. His spirit is trapped in a divine beast floating in the sky.
Directed by Elder Rito, Link successfully assists the intrepid warrior Teva in his attempt to board Vau Meadow, where he once again attempts to rid the aerial fortress of malice. Windbright defeating his Ganon’s corrupted beings, Link frees Revali’s spirit and convinces him to aid the other champions in facing the calamity.
master sword
Link ventures into the Lost Forest to obtain the Master Sword that Zelda laid down 100 years ago to restore his powers.
Proving himself worthy of wielding that power, Link pulls the sword from its stand and reclaims the legendary blade as its rightful owner.
War Ganon
With all the Divine Beasts restored and the Master Sword at his disposal, Link heads to Hyrule Castle. There, he must navigate a labyrinth of destroyed machines and monsters ruled by malice to reach the center and face off against Calamity Ganon.
Before he can land the first blow, the four champions unleash powerful blasts from their respective Divine Beasts, weakening Calamity and leaving Link to finish off the creature one last time (which he achieves).
But it doesn’t last long. Before he can free the princess (note that he kept calamity at bay all this time), the antagonist transforms into Dark Beast Ganon, a giant pig-like creature that begins rampaging in Hyrule Fields. .
With the help of Zelda’s Arrow of Light, Link managed to weaken the beast enough to weaken Zelda permanently (well, maybe not) Permanently) exile it to another realm.
Hyrule revival?
Calamity has been defeated. Princess is released. peace will be restored. Having achieved all this, Zelda tells Link that she has been watching over him for the past 100 years and asks him if he really remembers her now.
When the two left Hyrule Castle, the four heroes and the spirit of the King of Rome vanished into the air, ending the adventure at last.
However, it is not very end. Even if he restores all of Link’s memories before reaching this point, he still has one final storyline that shows Link and Zelda beginning to restore Hyrule to its former glory and beyond. Zelda confesses that the voice inside the Master Sword has gone deaf, and she states that her powers must have been weakened by her imprisonment in the last century.
And it really end… At this point…
