The majority of Thanksgiving weekend in the US has seen big swings in the software charts in the latest sales survey by NPD Group.
All rankings are based on earnings from October 30th to November 26th unless otherwise noted. Third parties may provide eShop data.
Monthly hardware results increased 45% year-over-year. This was mainly due to the easier supply of the PlayStation 5, which was considered the best platform in terms of both dollars and units. Switch was second on both counts.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were big winners for the Switch this period, coming in third in the survey after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II’s full month and the debuting God of War: Ragnarok. Scarlett and Violet debuted 7th in the Top 20 Grossing for the year and 8th in the Top 10 when measured retroactively to December 2021. Two of his other titles made it into the top 20. Suffering Sonic Frontiers saw him rank 4th (2nd on Switch), while Tactics Ogre: Reborn cracked 17th (not in the top 10 on Switch).
Older Nintendo first-party releases included in the top 20 are Mario Party Superstar (No. 10), Animal Crossing: New Horizons (No. 12), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (No. 13), The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (No. 20th). All four games were included in Nintendo’s Black Friday software sale or, in the case of MK8, the Black Friday bundle. Third parties include FIFA 23 (6th in World Cup), NBA 2k23 (7th), Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope (14th), Persona 5 Royal (15th), Minecraft (18th) increase.
