Halfway through the “server slam” online stress test, Blizzard rolled out a buff to Diablo 4’s Necromancer class.according to Post on the official forums (opens in new tab) Blizzard Community Manager PezRadar said, “We plan to address some of the feedback we’ve been seeing regarding necromancer pets and their survivability.” PezRadar further adds, “Users do not need to download a new update as this is a backend change.”
We’ve definitely heard your feedback on the Necro nerf. I feel them too. Remember balance is a journey, not a destination. Needs tweaking to get the balance right.May 13, 2023
When observing the overall reaction to a server slam (opens in new tab) Everyone seemed to be having a good time yesterday, except for Necros. While there will always be grievances and disagreements with any change, Necromancer main players (and some players of other classes as well) have confirmed that in the latest beta, the character’s signature skeleton minion is a wet toilet paper roll. They almost unanimously agreed that it has such staying power.
according to reports euro gamer (opens in new tab)Diablo 4 GM Rod Ferguson (opens in new tab) He tweeted that he was “hearing feedback on Necro’s nerf” and even said “they are feeling it too”. Blizzard’s official communication doesn’t reveal what detailed numerical changes have been made to Skerry, but it’s just that he’s getting a bit of a boost.
As of this writing, there are still hours left until this final beta, but I’m curious what this means for Diablo 4 in the future. The Necromancer is likely to keep this buff at launch, meaning it will be a more viable option next month than it was during his slam on the server. More interestingly, this is a very impressive online demonstration of his infrastructure on Blizzard’s part. Most other live service games require a reboot and patch download to make such changes. This kind of handy, discreet hotfix matches the Beta’s amazingly queue-free experience. (opens in new tab) this weekend. We’d love to know if this will lead to a smoother launch when Diablo 4 releases on his June 6th (has that ever happened to a live service game?).
