Carlton objected to challenging Will Hayes’ two-game AFL suspension for the dangerous tackle that plagued Geelong’s Sam Menegola.
Hayes tackled Menegora during a collision at MCG on Saturday night, but was unaware that Cats’ midfielder had already lost control of the ball.
No obvious malicious intent was found in the case.
However, Menegora’s head hit the ground and he had no way of protecting himself, so the match reviewer came to his decision.
The incident was rated as inadvertent, high-impact, and frequent contact.
Menegora had to be replaced outside the match.
Former Western Bulldog midfielder Hayes has played his second match against Carlton since being selected for the mid-season draft.
The 27-year-old has been punished for 23 on an impressive display, but Bruce is chasing the top four and will not be able to play in the match between GWS and Adelaide.
Menegora is already on the sidelines this year due to a concussion after being head knocked during a VFL match in April.
