At 33 years old and changing, Phantasy Star ranks high on the list of longest-running video game franchises, has touched the lives of many, and inspired millions of fans. rice field. And the journey continues. Today we are happy to announce that Action RPG Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is coming to his PS4 on August 31st.

A brief history of the futuristic RPG series

Phantasy Star has changed shape over the past 30 years, but some concepts remain the same. First developed for the Sega Master System in 1987, these single-player RPGs eventually became his tetralogy, set in much of the same star system, but each to be enjoyed as a separate adventure. is ready. The inclusion of elements of sci-fi and classic fantasy themes made these games unique for their time. Players traveled across multiple planets, explored dungeons, and fought terrifying enemies. The four titles were highly praised for their gameplay and visuals.

In 2000, the series inspired Phantasy Star Online, one of the first console games with online multiplayer capabilities. The game’s party-based system and combat-based his PvE play made him one of the early pioneers of online gameplay in the console market. 2006’s Phantasy Star universe continues the series’ trend of featuring new settings and stories with each entry, while evolving its signature sci-fi-infused combat. Finally, in 2012, Phantasy Star Online 2 launched its own stellar journey to the stars.

new genesis

August 31st is the release date for the PS4 version of Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. It’s a major update that features a complete overhaul of the game system and graphics engine, changes in exploration from being hub-based to a true open world, and a new story and cast of characters set over 1,000 years after the events of PSO2.

New Genesis players can explore PSO2 content with their characters by accessing an in-game device and teleporting back to the original world at will. This makes New Genesis a perfect entry point for newcomers as it gives access to both games. This is all F2P as you don’t need a Playstation Plus subscription to play the Playstation 4 version of his New Genesis.

New Genesis: Fight and explore solo or with friends

Like its predecessor, New Genesis is built around compelling story-driven quests and intense real-time combat sequences as you explore and battle the landscape of planet Halpha.

While New Genesis is very compelling as a solo adventure, players can form parties of up to four and play in exploration sectors with up to 32 players at once, so you can join friends and others. You can also have fun. There are also emergency quests where powerful enemies and bosses appear, and up to 2 parties or a total of 8 people can participate.

When it comes to party dynamics, this isn’t your typical healer, tank, and two damage classes. No, we don’t need that here. Some classes have abilities that support other players’ play (damage or defensive buffs, whole range healing, etc.), but NGS doesn’t have a strict role.

Also, you cannot acquire skill points or abilities just by leveling up. To place points in your skill tree, you’ll need to visit Trainia and Cocoons to earn points. There, you will have to defeat enemies and solve puzzles in a simulated environment. These can be done in parties and are repeatable for in-game currency and experience (but no additional skill points after the first completion). You can also create parties for urgent, on-demand quests called Trigger Quests, which can be accessed from quest counters in any of the three cities.

Finally, areas of New Genesis are segregated into blocks and rooms, so you can teleport to sectors or city blocks where your friends are, or create private rooms that only you and your friends can access. A maximum of 32 people can participate in a Sector, and a maximum of 8 in a Battle Sector.

Dynamic interactions and quests in NGS

There are quests available from NPCs in the three major cities, but much of the experience players gain in NGS comes from the dynamic interactions that occur on the field. Emergency trials occur frequently and may require defending downed aircraft against hordes of enemies, destroying powerful enemies with other players, or other scenarios. Storms can shatter the landscape, spawning particularly strong enemies called Gigantics. Dispatching them requires the help of quite a few players. Rewards for defeating enemies are in-game currency, experience points, weapons and armor (some powerful and rare), and enhancements to enhance your equipment. Some enemies in certain locations may even drop cosmetic items to further customize your character.

upper class

You can choose from nine main classes and choose subclasses that support the player’s individual playstyle and goals. Want to keep your enemies close? Try a fighter/hunter class combination. Do you like casting spells from a distance? Check out the Force/Tector combo. Thinking of switching it up? Feel free to change classes by visiting class counters in major cities. The game offers 17 different weapons, with a handful of choices for all but one (the newly released Waker). Each class’s skill tree also lets you tailor his active and passive his abilities to suit your playstyle and preferred weapon type.

New Magic in New Genesis: Photon Arts and Techniques

Players can use either Photon Arts (PA) or Techniques, providing optional weapons in combat. Photon Arts depend on the player’s weapon choice, which in turn depends on the player’s class.

Make your gameplay really interesting by changing weapons during battle. Want to throw the perfect uppercut after hitting your opponent as a fighter? Hit a few knuckles and use the Thousand Blow PA. is the enemy still alive? Switch to Double Saber and use Quick Gash to create a tornado. The Fighter class lets you use Partisan, Double Saber, and Knuckles, and has up to six weapons in your weapon palette that you can quickly change in mid-fight.

Some classes use techniques instead of Photon Arts, others can be flung from safety, and others target nearby enemies. As a force, players can use either rods or talis to cast techniques. They all have attributes of some sort.

Use the Glanz Technique on the Rod to summon the Sword of Light on your opponent and follow up with Gimmegid to shoot Dark Photons at oncoming enemies. Casting Elemental Techniques has the added benefit of not only dealing damage, but many enemies have his Elemental Weakness. If you hit a technique that matches the enemy’s weak attribute, you can give an elemental down, a special down state that makes the enemy unresponsive for a certain period of time. It is popular with other players because giving elemental downs allows other players to damage enemies freely without fear of retribution. It can be achieved by targeting weak points, amplifying the damage.

Have a great time in Halfa

PS4 players will discover that there are three regions of planet Halpha ready for exploration: Aelio, Retem, and Kvaris.

Elio is lush and full of picturesque mountains and valleys, as well as enemy-infested ruins of the Institute and Mount Magnus.

The Lethem region is a harsh desert landscape. Moving sand surrounds a massive pyramid structure with a large mountain to the southwest. A variety of domesticated, or passive, beasts inhabit the area and tend to congregate around the several oases found in the area.

At the other end of the desert heat is the frigid Kvaris region, which players have been exploring since June 2022. The presence of snow offers players new modes of transportation for floating boards and snowboards. This area is dotted with scattered jump pads and acceleration pads. West of Kvaris lies the deadly Rayjord Gorge, an area that not only protects dangerous enemies, but also challenges players by exposing them to frigid temperatures that can kill them if not properly accounted for. . The most dangerous enemies, the Ancients, his enemies spawn occasionally and the player needs the help of others (up to 32) to deal with them. The potential rewards of exploring this area are highly desirable, provided the player can survive the environmental effects and powerful enemies.

There’s a lot more to this game, so bookmark your calendar, take a vacation if you want, and experience Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis on PlayStation 4 when it releases on August 31st. please!
