R-Type Delta is a PS1 classic. One of the greatest shmups of its age, the title hasn’t received a port since 2009 on the PS3, so this has been a long time coming. As the first R-Type with 3D graphics, we were worried the title might not look great with proper HD graphics. This era of 3D gaming tends to look pretty rough when viewed in hi-def. However, we’re impressed with the visuals. The touched-up environments are highly detailed, surprisingly destructible, and vibrant. The skyboxes are especially beautiful. Even better, Delta is far more forgiving when it comes to collisions.…

Truck Driving is a title developed by Tap Nation and published by Ultimate Games. It’s marketed as an action game, according to its Nintendo page, but it’s a driving simulation at best. Out of so many driving sims in the world, how does this particular game compare? Spoiler alert: it doesn’t. The premise of Truck Driving is to learn how to drive a truck, though there is no story. It’s simply a simulation to see if you can handle the physics of driving heavy loads between three different trucks, two of which you have to unlock. You do this through…

Microsoft has delivered some blows to Task Manager in recent times. As noted last week by PC Gamer’s Andy Edser, the Windows team recently stamped out a bug that granted Task Manager immortality. The sadly now mortal Task Manager has also suffering from an indignity for months that I have only just noticed: a crappy, Windows 11-ified icon.I am generally ambivalent about Windows 11’s aesthetic. The icons and menus are mostly uninspired but serviceable, blending in with 2020s corporate visual design in a manner befitting an operating system that’s iterated itself into a state of near non-identity (AI will solve…

When I played Escape From Tarkov for the first time in 2018, I remember being captivated by its obtuse, insanely challenging structure. Like PUBG was to the battle royale genre, this promising prototype of an extraction shooter had so many unique elements going for it that made me absolutely certain it would be the next big thing, even if it was sometimes completely broken in its Early Access state. All these years later, now finally hitting 1.0, it’s pretty shocking how much has changed while it also remains exactly as exasperating as I remember it. The hands-off approach to onboarding…
