Ah, a 3D platformer. Ever since Super Mario 64 came out, we’ve been showing people how great 3D platforming can be. can There are developers out there hoping to capture just a fraction of that game’s magic. Even the Plumber himself was a tough act to follow, but his bespoke Switch outings have allowed him to reach the pinnacle of the game. I discovered that there is

Compared to the huge catalog of 2D platformers available (very impressive selection), we’ve decided to split it into the best 2D platformers and best Metroidvanias on Switch – a possible list 3D The platformer is a bit slim, but it has certainly grown in the years since the console launched. but the game is Hello It heralded the rise of first-person shooters on consoles.

Still, it pops up from time to time to remind us of the good old days of Banjo-Kazooie and Glover. Switch has still produced some impressive examples of the genre, and while they may not all reach the incredible heights of the Italian Gentleman’s Balloon Ship, once the adventure is over , they certainly offer a great platform experience.

So, in no particular order, let’s take a look at Switch’s best 3D platformers.

Kirby of the Stars (Switch)

the publisher: Nintendo / Developer: Hull Lab

Release date: March 25, 2022 (united states of america) / March 25, 2022 (UK/EU)

Kirby and the Forgotten Lands is a big colorful joyride of adventure for our little pink pals. , has managed to transfer everything we know and love about past Kirby games to this all-new arena, while also adding a lot of fun new facets. is as funny as Each level is full of secrets and drips with great detail. There are enough side activities, collectibles, and co-op fun here to keep you entertained and coming back. longer. What a great way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Planet Popstar’s masterpiece.

Crash Bandicoot N. Thane Trilogy (Switch)

Crash Bandicoot N. Thane Trilogy (Switch)

the publisher: Activision / Developer: bob toys

Release date: June 29, 2018 (united states of america) / June 29, 2018 (UK/EU)

Crash Bandicoot N. Thane Trilogy is a ruthlessly faithful recreation of some of the early successes of 3D platforming. The levels are slick and beautiful to look at, and do a great job of recreating the feel of the original. Newcomers to the series may be put off by the sudden difficulty spike and little to no explanation of the finer mechanics. For better or worse, the joys and weaknesses of the original trilogy are all here, and despite some odd design choices, it still manages to be a really enjoyable reread of some old classics, warts, etc. Worth a look if you’re a fan of 3D platformers, but as was the case in the 1990s, Clash isn’t exactly in the same league as Mario when it comes to playability, originality, and entertainment. If you want a great trip, it’s hard to beat.

Yooka-Laylee (Switch eShop)

Yooka-Laylee (Switch eShop)

the publisher: team 17 / Developer: play tonic game

Release date: December 14, 2017 (united states of america) / December 14, 2017 (UK/EU)

Yooka-Laylee It’s a worthy modern homage to the collection songs of old, from the many developers who created the peerless Banjo-Kazooie, and is highly recommended for Switch owners. It belongs in 1996 It feels like a game, with all the modern gaming quality of life improvements, making it a great blend of old and new. It can get a little uneven at times, but overall the game manages to accomplish what developer Playtonic is trying to do. Bringing back some of his classic Rareware magic, he creates a fresh game with the same mischievous spirit for his long-awaited fans. Composed by genius ex-Rare musicians David Wise and Grant Kirkhope, you know it makes sense.

de Blob 2 (switch)

de Blob 2 (switch)

the publisher: nordic games / Developer: nordic games

Release date: August 28, 2018 (united states of america) / August 28, 2018 (UK/EU)

Deblob 2 Retaining many of the same characteristics found in the original Wii game, this updated Switch version leaves both good and not-so-good features largely intact. The camera can still be finicky at times and things can feel a little that too Easy in places, but brand new 2D sections and a slightly more polished overall experience place the sequel right above the original in the pecking order. This game is going to be #1.

Snake Pass (Switch eShop)

Snake Pass (Switch eShop)

the publisher: Sumo Digital / Developer: Sumo Digital

Release date: March 28, 2017 (united states of america) / March 29, 2017 (UK/EU)

Ah Controversy — 3D Platformer You Can’t Jump! Sumo Digital’s snake pass is a true gem in the Switch library and well worth a look for anyone looking for a fun palette cleanser. It’s unlike anything you’ve played before. A fresh platforming experience that keeps you engrossed until the end. Solid visuals, unconventional gameplay, a memorable soundtrack (David Wise again), and decent replay value make this one well worth your time and definitely recommended. If you want to take your chances and play unique games, Snake Pass is worth a look.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)

the publisher: Nintendo / Developer: Nintendo

Release date: February 12, 2021 (united states of america) / February 12, 2021 (UK/EU)

super mario 3d world is one of the better linear Mario games and absolutely fun for anyone playing it for the first time. A curious bonus that is Bowser’s wrath On top of his adventures, he’s got a package that offers great value for money. Not without its shortcomings, but most of these (online multiplayer, recurring missions in Bowser’s Fury) are related to the new additions. The main game itself remains as pure and flawless as the Wii U. Thoroughly recommended anyway, even if it’s Super Mario 3D World itself. Bowser’s wrath is just the cherry on top.

Human: Fallflat (Switch eShop)

Human: Fallflat (Switch eShop)

the publisher: curve digital / Developer: no brake game

Release date: December 7, 2017 (united states of america) / December 7, 2017 (UK/EU)

Human: Fall Flat recognizes a simple truth: it’s hilarious for people to fall, and when they seem to take no damage, it’s a guilt-free added bonus. It takes some getting used to, and maybe not at all, but the game is wide open with each level offering different solutions to suit your style. challenge solo Even if the game is underperforming, it’s not as fun as having a second player join in. We think you and your fellow humans might get really addicted to this little puzzle-platformer.

Poi: Explorer Edition (Switch)

Poi: Explorer Edition (Switch)

the publisher: Alliance Digital Media / Developer: Polykid

Release date: October 24, 2017 (united states of america) / November 24, 2017 (UK/EU)

you have to feel a little sorry Poi and its developer PolyKid. You spend years creating your own 3D platformer and put your heart and soul into it. super mario odysseyWhat!

However, Poi: Explorer Edition is a great platforming adventure in its own right. Anyone who enjoys a good “collect a son” will be in heaven with this game – the medallions are a lot of fun and it takes a lot of time and effort to find all the extra collectibles. If you like games in the genre, I definitely recommend giving Poi a try. Worth playing.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Switch)

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Switch)

the publisher: Nintendo / Developer: Nintendo

Release date: July 13, 2018 (united states of america) / July 13, 2018 (UK/EU)

‘all right,’ you are thinkingI made an exception for the snake path, but now Captain Toad?!”

Well, despite the puzzle angle, this is a 3D platformer, and the lack of a jump button doesn’t make it any less of a winner. With beautiful visuals and an upbeat soundtrack, Treasure Tracker is a true gem. A great gorgeous platform puzzle game suitable for all ages and definitely something you should try if you haven’t already. There is also a small amount of DLC available after completion.
