A glitch in Diablo 4 proved to be more of a threat than the devil for two players who saw their hardcore run following a permanent death end early, dropping their chances of winning the race down to level 100.
Max “Maximum” Smith, co-owner of esports organization Team Liquid, was frozen in place and unable to do anything 18 hours into his Hardcore Sorceress playthrough last night. A glitch prevented him from moving or activating life-saving skills other than healing potions.
“I think the F4 needs to be changed,” he said, using the final potion. When he loaded into Diablo 4 again, the character creation page appeared, confirming that his Sorceress had died permanently and was removed as part of Diablo 4’s Hardcore His Rules. Due to the online nature of Diablo 4, you don’t disappear from the world as soon as you exit the game. Smith’s level 52 Sorceress died while reloading the game.
Smith had reviewed the footage of his death and confirmed that both of his unstoppable skills were disabled when they shouldn’t have been. Unstoppable skills grant immunity to all sources of damage and can be activated at any time. Smith suspects that the animation caused the character to freeze when he used his ultimate skill, preventing him from using his other abilities.
“It’s cruel to die of bugs after playing for 18 hours,” he later wrote. twitter. “I can certainly level up and be in the top 1,000, but I don’t want to waste my time just waiting for something like this to happen again.”
Dying from a bug after playing 18 hours is cruel. Sure you can relevel and get into the top 1000, but I don’t want to waste my time just having things like this happen again like what happened to me and what got me kicked out. pic.twitter.com/oil2tiihRRJune 2, 2023
Path of Exile speedrunner and WoW pro player Imexile ran into another team end of execution glitch Hours before Smith. While the two players were grouped together in a dungeon, Imexile’s her Sorceress was hit by a powerful poison DoT and did not disappear. Imexile’s Flame Shield was supposed to grant immunity, but didn’t cleanse the rapidly ticking damage. I was forced out of the game, and when I logged back in, the death character creation screen was displayed.
“I am very confused about what happened,” he said. “I don’t even know what to do–what did I have to do?”
As of this writing, both players have returned to playing Hardcore mode with the new Sorceress. Smith is currently level 17 and Imexile is level 21.
Rogue player Udijo, on the other hand, leads the hardcore race at level 62. If he reaches level 100 without any glitches or fatalities, he will be one of the first 1,000 players to complete this challenge and will be rewarded by Blizzard. statue username.
