Swedish video game company Embracer Group has acquired not one but several companies and IP for an undisclosed amount.
In a series of press releases, Embracer announced the acquisition of Tripwire Interactive (Killing floor, man eater, rising storm), Tuxedo Labs (tear down), Singtrix (voice processing effects technology), physics distributor Limited Run Games, and Lord of the Ring When Hobbit literature the work By JRR Tolkien.
The Embracer Group’s acquisition of Tolkien’s Universe includes Middle-Earth Enterprises, which owns the rights to video games, board games, merchandise and other related works. Embracer operative Asmodee has already licensed the Lord of the Rings board and card games. Upcoming projects include his Amazon series of animated Lord of the Rings films, Electronic Arts mobile games, Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth.
With the acquisition of Limited Run, Embracer will acquire the physical publisher and its Carbon Engine. It’s an internally developed technology that allows legacy content and highly accurate emulation-based retro games to be ported to modern hardware. LRG will continue to operate as an independent subsidiary.
Other companies acquired include Tatsujin (Embracer’s first Japanese studio – led by Masahiro Yuge, founder of Toaplen), Bitwave Games (Wonder Ring DX) and Gioteck – leading gaming accessory brands. Acquisition of Guru includes the Torplan Catalog (Traxton, snow brothers, flying shark etc). Bitwave will also help release “acclaimed shooters” from Toaplan, and NES/Famicom platformers. gimmick! on the console.
