After allowing players to experience combat without gimmicks with Zero Build last year, Epic Games has announced the next big overhaul to Fortnite’s matchmaking. Starting with this week’s v24.40 patch, ranked play across multiple modes will be available to everyone.
Season Zero of Ranked Play will be available in both standard Battle Royale and Build Zero modes, and will run until the end of Chapter 4 Season 3 later this summer. This timing allows the Fortnite team to “adjust any issues or concerns that have arisen, while also working on additional features and overall improvements in preparation for when Ranked begins according to the regular Battle Royale season schedule. will be able to.”
Standard Battle Royale allows Solo, Duo, and Squad ranks, while Zero builds only allow Duo ranks in Season Zero. Ranks will also be separate for Battle Royale and Zero Builds. This means players can rank up independently in one format without being affected by the other.
When ranked mode is activated, a player’s rank increases or decreases based on the following criteria:
- match placement
- Eliminations by individual and team
- Eliminations late in the match count more than eliminations early in the match.
- The rank of the eliminated opposing player is taken into account.
- A team’s rank is assigned based on the highest ranked player on the team.
- For example, a team with a Gold 1 rank, 2 Silver 1 ranks, and a Bronze 2 rank will be assigned Gold 1.
All players start at the Bronze rank and progress through Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion and Unreal. Every level from Bronze to Diamond has 3 Ranks each, and Elite, Champion, and Unreal have 1 Rank each.
Once a player reaches an Unreal rank, they will remain at that rank for the rest of the season. However, all other Unreal Levels around the world are also given a number indicating his standing among players, which can also be tracked on a special his Unreal Leaderboard. If you don’t want to appear on the leaderboard, you can hide yourself from the list through your privacy settings.
Finally, this new mode will also offer special cosmetic rewards via Ranked Urgent Quests that must be completed in a single match. The final reward for Ranked Season Zero is the Burn Bright emote.
Fortnite is free to download now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC and mobile devices. Ranked mode will be available this Tuesday with the v24.40 patch implementation scheduled for May 16th.
