hifi rush It may have been a big surprise for Developer_Direct. When It launched in a day, but that doesn’t mean its development was like a whirlwind. In fact, game director John Johannes has been pitching this idea for his action experimentation for years, dating back to his original Evil Within game. And it turns out he had a very specific, non-game inspiration from the start: Edgar Wright’s movies.
Johanas explained to the Xbox Podcast that Tango Gameworks may be known for its horror titles, but the studio has been looking for a way to do something different for quite some time.
“You probably know our studio for making horror games evil within When Ghostwire: Tokyobut this is what we wanted to make [would] It really completely changed the image of our studio and asked us what we as developers could do, even in the game world. Because we wanted to do something new. – That’s essentially how I pitched it.
“The game itself is something I personally wanted to make for a long time, and fortunately the timing was right internally when it was deemed a great palette cleanser after it was completed. evil within 2, just branch out and try something new. ”
in the meantime hifi rush Drawing on the influences of some very famous games – the rhythm genre and classic technical action games loom large – one of the starting points for all this was drawn from the cinematic universe:
“One of the first things we had was this was the kind of movie that influenced the stylistic direction of how we did it, Edgar Wright as a director. – You might compare it with a driver. [Editor’s note: I did exactly this in our hands-on with the game, whoops], this is about music — music is so coherently tied to imagery — but in reality, this predates it well. There was a scene with them in the original Shaun of the Dead Bar fighting to the soundtrack of Queen [Warning: adult language] It was choreographed to it. Maybe you’ve seen it, maybe you remember it.
“I was like, ‘That was so cool. What if we made a game just like that?’ And that’s how I pitched it. How that became the idea.” yes, years and years [ago] when i was still working on the original evil withinBut [Hi-Fi Rush] It finally gave me a chance to pursue that angle. ”
Its inspiration goes beyond the concept of rhythmic combat. Chai, an aspiring rock star, hifi rush It also has a particularly light-esque main character.
“We knew we wanted a main character who wasn’t a superhero. The big reference point we used was Scott Pilgrim, especially since we’re talking about Edgar Wright, who was influenced by Edgar Wright Scott Pilgrim. But in a way, they’re like antiheroes – they’re not bad, but they’re mostly idiots.”
hifi rush Wearing these influences on its sleeve is an increasing joy. This is a game that celebrates the games, music and movies that inspired it, and surprises his release on Xbox and PC (Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass members can play as part of their membership). Make it even more exciting. And as far as this writer is concerned, if Tango Gameworks wants to return to horror in the future, always watch Last Night In Soho to keep its Edgar Wright charm flowing…
