“Magic is essentially their craft,” explains Lichtblau. “They can use it to bend the rules of architectural design, so they can see large sweeping shapes and gigantic white skyscrapers that might have been built by advanced magical users of the time. That dichotomy makes it feel a little unexpected.”
This combination of familiar and futuristic transcends world design and permeates character styling, dialogue, and language, giving Aveum’s inhabitants a unique edge. Bogan points to Jack’s design, and the cut of the motorcycle jacket gives him a sci-fi vibe with chainmail sewn in for a medieval fantasy flavor.
“Aveum has always helped connect elements from different worlds and eras and make them feel otherworldly,” he adds.
