“We try to stay true to the characters and the story, but tailor it to the needs of the game,” Miners explains. âSo we often change or add abilities to make cool fights, or put characters into different versions of the plot because we can’t follow modules one-on-one.
Of course, bringing a popular D&D character like Jarlaxle to life comes with a certain amount of responsibility. Players can have their own vision of these characters that have been living in their heads for literally decades. No version is perfect, but the team are all big Dungeons & Dragons geeks and try to make it as close to perfection as possible.
âOur content writers sit down and think about the characters and their plotlines and write the history of the characters,â says Minor. âWe have a huge bookshelf of Dungeons & Dragons novels in our office in case we need to reference a characterâs established voice.
