Forspoken is finally available on PS5. It’s time to show the world your evil and cool magical sling fighting skills. You’ll learn many different types of magic on Frey’s journey, but Purple’s magic is with you from the start and remains a great tool throughout the game. To help you get started on your journey, let’s take a closer look at Frey’s combat-focused Purple Magic and what it can do.
Frey starts off with Burst Shot, Shield Shot, and Scatter Shot (each at level 1) offensive spells and binds support spells. To learn more spells, you’ll need to spend mana points accumulated by leveling up to find mana pools scattered across the vast landscape of Atea. The order in which you learn spells is up to you, but don’t worry if you think you got it wrong. You can stop learning spells at any time and get your mana refunded for use elsewhere.
So let’s check out some purple magic spells and detail how to get the most out of them.
attack magic
Burst shot: A powerful and reliable method of attack, Burst Shot causes a huge rock explosion after releasing a charge. The higher the rank of the spell and the longer the charge, the bigger the Kaboom after it. If your opponent has tough defenses, try a charged burst shot. It can easily penetrate the defenses of enemies flaunting their shields.
Shield shot: Some enemies don’t respect Frey’s personal space. That’s where the shield comes in for his shot. If an enemy tries to attack you head-on while you’re charging a shield shot, they’ll face a nasty surprise when you counterattack by blowing out their face shield. Shields increase in level and also work to protect you from certain projectile attacks. However, it is still vulnerable to flanking and rear attacks as well as attacks that break shields, so be careful.
Scattershot: Do you like powerful attacks, but don’t like the fact that you can’t attack while charging? After that, thanks to the Scatter Shot mechanics. Holding the button fires a small, magical burst of rapid-fire spray that charges up and unleashes a big killing blow. The higher the spell level, the bigger the blast. Scattershot excels in long-range combat, and is especially effective against many flying enemies.
support magic
Knead: Some enemies can’t stand still while aiming, but a bind helps. Bind temporarily immobilizes enemies within a large radius while shooting freely. Or, if you’re not in the mood for a fight, you can keep your opponents at bay while skateboarding.
tendrils: Tendril is an amazing crowd control spell when angry mobs are coming at you from all sides. It can be used on the ground or in the air, and unleashes a giant vine that sweeps around Frey in a large circle. Not only can you kill a large number of enemies at once, but you will also recover according to the damage dealt.
Implant: Implants may not seem very effective at first, but each time your attack hits, they also deal a little extra damage. .
Prime: This spell is a little tricky, but worth it. Use Prime to set traps on the ground and use yourself as bait to lure in enemies. As soon as they step on the trap, a blast knocks nearby enemies to the ground. (Or, if you’re into mischief, charge his burst his shots can also activate traps.) Due to the knockdown potential, this is a great setup for a special move.
Variance: This spell allows Frey to plant a giant flower on the ground that blooms into a beautiful turret as soon as he shoots an enemy that comes within range. It is also effective against existing enemies.
reach: Poisoning can be cured. I don’t have much else to say here, but whenever you find yourself slowly draining your strength and on the brink of death, keep that in mind.
screen: Need a shield shot guard function but it doesn’t work well against enemies? The screen provides a similar barrier of protection against frontal attacks. However, be aware that recharging takes a considerable amount of time and can be breached with a Guard Break attack.
surge magic
Book of Genesis: Genesis is a surge magic spell that has a long recharge time and is a powerful attack that can be used by pressing L2 and R2. This spell sends out a rock vine that hits anything on the ground just in front of Frey. Power up the surge and hold L2 and R2 to increase the area of effect for a few seconds and deal more damage. As devastating as this spell is, it can leave Frey vulnerable to attacks if you don’t cover Frey’s back and sides, especially if you hold L2 and R2 for too long. Be aware of your surroundings whenever you decide to
That’s a lot of spells, and enough to develop a fun combat strategy. And if you think these spells are cool, wait until you see what red, blue, and green magic has to offer. Don’t forget to use the book to tackle combat and exploration challenges centered around each spell. Completing them provides a very beneficial combat boost.
