With its chunky lo-fi aesthetic, it has a gentle yet sinister side. Guided only by a mysterious voice who seems as confused by the situation as you are, you begin your path to finding out where you are by creating. Build a network of production facilities and uncover the secrets of the factory left behind where you wake up.
It’s a compelling mix of narrative adventure and factory simulation, but the latter element quickly becomes very important. Local plants must be harvested for use as biofuel and pumped into mining rigs to build layers upon layers of machinery. A glimpse through an initially impenetrable window shows how far this can go. If you want to simplify, you would say Little Kitty, Big City is a narrative puzzle game that takes you back to your apartment through a series of quests. But as soon as you start playing, it becomes clear that this is a much more self-directed game than that. Each comes with its own health bar that quickly changes how defensively you have to fight. Even better, each comes with its own set of abilities, and you’ll need to pick the right one for your particular battle.
This comes into its own in really frustrating boss fights. The arena is littered with multiple cannonballs, and part of the strategy will be swapping out different gear to use all the power available. It will be interesting to see a veteran like Saul take on this challenge and realize how much there is to challenge yourself here.
