Here at PlayStation Productions, we strive to introduce notable gaming IP to new audiences, and we recognize that adapting a video game from one interactive medium to another is no easy task. For HBO’s The Last of Us show, this meant retelling the game’s fan-favorite story for TV in a faithful and compelling way. Thankfully, the show’s top creators combined their decades of shared experience making video games and TV shows to take on an exciting challenge.
We’ve been blown away by the positive reception so far, and as we get closer to the finale in the coming weeks, we’re excited to introduce the latest chapter in Sony’s Creator to Creator series of The Last of Us. Look back at the time the cast worked on games and shows. Participants are:
- Neil Druckmann, Executive Producer/Co-President, Naughty Dog
- Craig Mazin, Executive Producer
- Pedro Pascal (Joel)
- Bella Ramsey (Ellie)
- Myself, Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions at SIE
This first roundtable will feature creators talking about tackling the challenges and opportunities of bringing The Last of Us to HBO. Neil Druckmann discusses the new creative experience of directing a TV episode. Bella says Ellie’s performance is an organic blend of herself and her iconic character, with fans on set blowing icy air to simulate a snowstorm, while Pedro I look back at walking around in the snow.
