The Nintendo Switch is a truly special console for Nintendo fans. Who would have guessed that when the console was announced, it would not only see new games stand out in the long-running series, but also the return of beloved Nintendo franchises we thought were long gone. Metroid. Before the Switch, the Metroid series was on the Wii (sorry, sorry Metroid: Other M fans) and the Federation Forces (because someone was thinking of slapping the Metroid name for some reason) he 1 I was looking at one mediocre entry. And after years of waiting, we got a great Metroid Dread in 2021 (my his 2021 Game of the Year). Well, in 2023, Nintendo did something I never thought possible and brought back the original Metroid Prime in the best possible way. Metroid Prime Remastered is more than just a fantastic return of the original Metroid Prime. Metroid Prime Remastered could be rated as one of the best video games on Nintendo Switch.
Metroid Prime Remastered, as you might have guessed, is a remastered version of the original Metroid Prime game released on the GameCube in 2002. This original game was an absolute masterpiece for many reasons. One of the reasons it stands out is that it was a great example of turning a 2D series into a 3D adventure while maintaining the atmosphere that made it so beloved. Metroid games are about isolation and discovery, and Metroid Prime absolutely nailed that. When the game first came out in 2002, I didn’t think video games could be better than Metroid Prime. So imagine my surprise when Nintendo casually announced a remaster. Never in my life have I bought a video game earlier than Metroid Prime Remastered.
Metroid Prime Remastered is a very beautiful game and one of the best looking titles on Switch. Every detail of the game has been updated to an impressive level. Literally everything is graphically enhanced, including environmental details, enemy designs, and cutscenes. It’s really impressive and gives the game today a look at what it felt like back in 2002. It also always runs beautifully at 60fps. This is a very big problem for Metroid Prime.
Metroid Prime Remastered also nailed the feel of the gameplay. The original Metroid Prime used so-called “tank controls”. To fire the weapon, you had to stop moving, manually aim the weapon, and fire. It worked in 2002, when first-person shooter controls weren’t completely fixed (the first Halo only came out the year before). so it feels like a modern FPS. This is perfect for those new to the series or wanting to give Metroid Prime a try. The game also has original control options. The game also has a Wii motion control option, so why do it yourself? (just kidding, his Wii control on Metroid Prime was fine).
There are also some great bonus features included in Metroid Prime Remastered. There is an entire concept art gallery to view, but the full gallery experience is only available after you’ve finished playing the game. By confronting enemies during your adventure, you’ll find that you unlock more concepts of his art in the gallery, as well as new character art and 3D models of him. There’s also a soundtrack gallery where you can listen to the soundtrack for Metroid Prime Remastered. Like the Concept Art Gallery, songs are only unlocked after being heard in-game. That said, you’ll get even more from this bonus features section once you’ve completed your playthrough. It also includes the concept art used to create the masters. It’s amazing to see the design decisions Retro Studios made to bring this game to the Nintendo Switch, and we love seeing these bonus features included.
The only negative thing I can think of about Metroid Prime Remastered is literally the smallest thing. In the original Metroid Prime, he was able to connect the game to his advanced game Metroid Fusion on the Game Boy, and in Metroid Prime, Fusion unlocked his suit. That feature isn’t in the Metroid Prime Remaster for obvious reasons, but the suit isn’t in the game (or at least, I haven’t found a way to get it). There are no special unlocks anywhere (like in Wii re-releases) or hidden areas with suits. If you’re new to the series you’ll literally never know this isn’t in the game. Not a big negative. It’s just a small detail I would have liked to have seen, but it should tell you something when that’s the only negative thing I can bring up about this game .
Metroid Prime Remastered is the incredible return of Metroid Prime and one of the best video games ever released for Nintendo Switch. Its masterful remaster takes an already amazing game and enhances every detail for the modern audience. ‘s control scheme makes Metroid Prime Remastered perfect for those wanting to get into the series and for longtime fans who want to get back to the best. There’s nothing bad about Metroid Prime Remastered. It’s one of the best remastered games Nintendo has ever made, and the $40 price tag completely steals the quality experience you’re getting. Don’t hesitate and go buy Metroid Prime Remastered. If you don’t mind, I’m starting my 4th playthrough of the remaster.
