Mike Fahey KotakuOne of the longest-serving writers for one of the video game industry’s oldest and most read online publications, passed away on Friday. he was 49 years old. For 16 years, Fahey has written with a hilarious, deep affection for toys, snacks, giant robots, video games, and the emotional connection that binds them all to his readers.

Fahey’s death confirmed on friday by his partner, Eugene Abbott. 2018, Feihei caused an aortic dissection, which was a rupture of a major artery in the body, left him paralyzed from the chest down and forced to use a wheelchair. Brian Crecente, Kotaku’s Editor-in-Chief from 2005 to 2011, recalls that Fahey was a commenter on a blog Crecente started before Kotaku was founded. When Crcente was named Kotaku editor, Fahey was his first employer.

“The reason I hired him and the reason he kept working there was because he was such a naturally funny guy,” Crescente said. “A lot of people who want to write interesting things force themselves to do it, but for him it was an innate ability. but I think what he loved most was making people laugh.”

Fahey stepped out of his shell when he was hired by Crcente in November 2006.
