It seems maybe $699.99 was a bit much for the average PS5 player. The PS5 Pro is out, and unlike the base consoleās release, this one is pretty readily available. This has led to some scalpers selling the console at a loss.
PS5 Pro availability leads to scalpers selling it at a loss
As reported by Video Games Chronicle, eBay UK has tons of users selling PS5 Pros under its Ā£700 retail price. The selection of Buy It Now listings seems to float around its MSRP between Ā£680 and Ā£700. Auction listings go quite a bit lower, with prices ranging between Ā£510 and Ā£670.
It seems this same situation is happening in Japan. Japanese resale site Mercari sees consoles selling the console up to Ā„20,000 more than its retail price. However, Otaku Research Institute iterates the site takes a 10% cut which results in scalpers making little to no profit.
Scalpers in the US have seemingly not taken the hint just yet. Currently, there is one PS5 Pro listing just under its retail price. The good amount of Buy It Now listings are between $800 and $1000 despite it being available at the usual big retailers gamers expect. Anyone wanting to buy the new console in the US should maybe just check their nearest Target, Best Buy, or GameStop. It actually might be available to pick up today at its normal price.
Something that seems to still be selling at inflated prices on eBay is the PS5 disc drive. Since the PS5 Pro does not include a disc drive, new adopters are picking up the accessory. Normally priced at $79.99, prices for Buy It Now and Auction listings are over $90.
The PS5 Proās launch ushered in updates for loads of games that utilize the power of the improved console. Any PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers can check out some of these PS5 Pro enhanced titles via the PS Plus Game Catalog. Any PS5 Pro owners that want to play something new, the November Savings promo features a handful of enhanced games on sale.
