I picked this one up on a whim this week, and six pounds of two full-action RPGs seemed to be generally well received, and seemed like a neat deal, so I’m pretty happy with it so far. Anima looks and feels like a remastered version of a PS2 game that never existed. So, affectionately speaking, it feels like an outdated game. But it’s fun in its own C-tier way. The way you can build your own custom moveset out of all the abilities you learn is very interesting, and while the combat is pretty simple, especially with your own arsenal It’s fast enough and responsive enough to be fun to play with. It has atmosphere and flow and I’m down with it. Anima’s achievements don’t look too bad either.It takes some playthrough but I’ve heard it’s pretty short, with a completion estimate of 20-25 hours. seems to back it up. Same quote for the sequels included in this bundle. Two interesting budget action RPGs for one low price…is there anything Ergo doesn’t like aside from absolute creepiness?

Sean — Citizen Sleeper

If you want to get lost in a sci-fi world full of rich and interesting characters, Citizen Sleeper is the game for you. Citizen Sleeper is a narrative RPG set on a crumbling space station called Erlin’s Eye. You play as a digitized human consciousness embedded in an android body, trying to make a life for yourself in the space station metropolis after escaping from the corporate overlords who own your body. However, the previous owner wants you back. It’s up to you, fate to roll some dice, how to spend each cycle on the eye, or take a dangerous risk trying to steal something from the cargo yard? Big payoff? Or do you take shifts at the bar for safe but meager wages? Citizen Sleeper plunges players into a cold, harsh world of refugeeism and capitalism, but the harshness is offset by the wonderfully warm and lovable characters you meet. These characters and their stories are expertly written and bring the game to life, along with gorgeous visuals and a great soundtrack. I enjoyed Citizen Sleeper so much that I named it my 2022 Indie Game of the Year. Tom — Martha is Dead Digital Deluxe Edition

This week’s pick is LKA.it’s fantastic thriller game Merthaise Dead. I thoroughly enjoyed this game last year in my review of Merthy the Dead. Set in the home of a German officer in Italy in 1944, you are tasked with helping the officer’s daughter, Gilia, uncover the events that led to the death of her twin sister. It’s a slow burner set in gorgeous countryside grounds, leaning heavily into walking simulator territory to allow you to absorb as much of the game’s atmosphere as possible. I found the most vibrant moments to come during some of the rougher sequences that unfold during her 15 hours of playtime in the game. From mutilation and murder to child abuse and psychosis, Martha Is Dead offers enough overt depravity to give you a mild sense of dread, but not enough to leave the psychological thriller genre. If you love focused storylines, picturesque settings, and scavenging for human remains, Merthaise Dead might be the game for you.

As for The Town of Light, I haven’t played it yet, but seeing that you can get both LKA.it titles for just under Martha is Dead alone’s list price, the latter at $28 definitely worth the price.
