We’ve checked out the early lineup of toys from the Mario movies from Jax Pacific.
With the release of the Super Mario Bros. movie just around the corner, the inevitable follow-up after your child sees this movie includes a toy (or video game). If you have any questions, please check the rest of the site. It has nearly 25 years of Mario video game coverage). I had the chance to test drive toy maker Jax Pacific’s Super Mario Bros. movie toys with his 4-year-old (in some cases he’s a 1-year-old). some winners.
The most ridiculous is the 7 inch Bowser figure that shoots smoke out of his mouth. It requires some setup (3 AAA batteries and a few drops of water), but after filling Bowser’s head with water, press the spikes on Bowser’s back to make his mouth light up red and steam out of his mouth. You can laugh when you blow it away. This King of Bowser needs to be poseable, a durable and fun toy for kids, and beautifully displayed.
The first wave of 5-inch toys fit well with our friends, the vape Smoke Bowser. Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad all get well-sculpted toys that look a step ahead of the World of Nintendo figures from Jax Pacific. Each hero comes with accessories that may or may not be movie related. Mario has a plunger. This adds up as his plumbing background is referenced. Luigi has a flashlight, which is reminiscent of Luigi’s mansion and also looks like he uses it in the middle of the movie. And I think you are. Finally, Peach has a parasol, which I think he uses to hit Goombas on the head or something. Both of my children have been playing with me since Bowser and the heroes moved into my house.
There’s also a vaguely Polly Pocket-esque playset that I never thought I’d like. The biggest is Peach’s Castle, which resembles the famous façade and displays an obstacle course that looks like the Training He course we saw in the trailer (it also looks like a level from a Mario game). This set comes with his 1.25″ Mario and Peach flying around blocks and piranha plants.
Another playset is based on Mario and Luigi’s van. It can be used as a toy vehicle, but can also be opened to reveal a series of pipes to various kingdoms. This set comes with 1.25 inch Mario only. Mario movie toys are supposed to come with Mario, but what comes with Peach’s Castle set is literally the same He’s a 1.25 inch Mario. From Luigi to Kamek, there are other 1.25-inch figures that are nice to have with these playsets, but if you buy the set alone, you’ll need two duplicates.
To complement the movie’s rich Mario Kart references, there’s also a pull-back car that evokes the movie’s kart (and looks like an off-kilter version of the kart in the game itself). I only had time to play around with Mario 1, which comes with a 2.5-inch Mario figure and a standard cart. Other carts have Toad, Peach and Koopa Troopa.
A Mario movie could expand across the Mario Cinematic Universe, with a movie about Donkey Kong and Luigi and a sequel introducing Wario. Maybe we can call it MCU?
