Walkabout Mini Golf is a mini golf virtual reality game from developer Mighty Coconut. You will tee off online, solo or with up to 7 other players, at various locations. From good old turf courses to dark seabed walks, golf has never been so much fun.
A total of eight 18-hole courses are offered in the base game, each with a difficult-to-unlock Night Mode version, and an optional paid DLC course, with plenty of holes to put the ball in. Each hall of Walkabout has a very different layout, with different obstacles to overcome, including ramps, pipes, rocks, statues and stairs. All these obstacles add complexity to the holes, many of which feature some level of verticality, such as towers or large canyons that require the ball to be shot down.
But it’s not all about courses. With over 150 custom collectible balls hidden in each hole, you’ll find him one on each hole so you can kill time between shots. There are also treasure hunts you can participate in to unlock custom clubs. This involves solving trails of clues to find the hidden club. Finally, there is both a driving range and a putting green where you can hone your ball hitting and sinking skills.
The physics are amazingly accurate and the power in each shot translates perfectly into the game. Landing long putts and tricky rebound shots while feeling the tactile vibrations of the PSVR2 Sense controller feels great. Hand tracking also works fine most of the time, as long as you don’t take the typical hand-over-hand golf stance and accidentally cover the sensor. It has happened to us several times.please drive us putty!
Walkabout has a lot of editable settings to make your VR traversal comfortable. You can teleport and rotate the view step by step, move freely between analogues, or just fly around if you’re immune to motion sickness. There’s also a dedicated positioning button to get you ready for your next shot, helping eliminate difficult positioning issues you might encounter.
The soundtrack and soothing atmospheric ambient noise are outstanding and give you a real immersion. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the visuals. The minimalist style is pretty, but it falls short due to the low quality of the textures.
Walkabout Mini Golf is a fun, easy-to-play virtual reality golf experience with great physics, a wide range of courses, fun treasure hunts and collectibles, and an all-in-one experience. I highly recommend that you gather some friends and join the club.
