of PS5 turns off It was a permanent problem with the console. The problem isn’t as widespread as it was during the launch of the PlayStation 5 console, but it still manages to rear its ugly head from time to time, even after all the patches and updates. There is a list of fixes and solutions you can try.
How to fix a PS5 that keeps turning off
Here are a number of possible fixes for your PlayStation 5 shutting down or turning off unexpectedly. I’ll list them in order of technical issues in the hopes that you won’t have to do too much to get your console working again.
- Make sure your PS5’s firmware is up to date. Go to your console’s system settings and make sure it’s updated. Unless you have a reason to use the console on an older build, we recommend updating automatically.
- Turn off HDMI Device Link. When enabled, the power state of the PS5 will be paired with the TV. That could be why your PS5 is shutting down.
- Turn off hibernation or sleep mode. Sometimes PS5 powers off when it’s in sleep mode. If this is happening, you can turn off sleep mode completely in the Energy Saver option in Settings.
- Please check the power cord. Hopefully it’s not damaged and working properly. The power cord is IEC C7 used by both PS3 and PS4. If you have one of these on hand, I would suggest swapping the power cable and see if that fixes the problem. You can also try another wall outlet or power strip to make sure you have the right wattage input.
- Check for possible overheating. You can tell if your PS5 is too hot by just touching it.Once the console has cooled, slide the console’s faceplate off and clean the dust from the vents. With the right vacuum attachment, you can easily clean your vents. If you want to dig deeper (which doesn’t void your warranty), you can also clean the fan blades with a can of air or a dry cloth.
