Q: John Cena has accomplished a lot in his WWE career.Why His Legacy Is An Excellent Focus WWE 2K23showcase mode?
John Cena is the face of an era. He is a historical figure and a brief member of WWE’s Mount He Rushmore. From his debut in 2002 to today, he has done just about everything imaginable as a member of his WWE roster.
During his career, he has competed and defeated the absolute challenge of a certified legend, earning the love and respect of his peers in the process.
His work is well documented. It was nice to pick up an important part of John, “Never Give Up,” and show that it’s not just something he says to others, but something he himself uses on a daily basis.
Looking at John’s career in this way allows us to look back at 20 years of WWE history that includes some of the biggest stars of the time. Showcase is where his WWE legends collide once again, and John Cena is the ultimate modern-day legend.
Q: What made you decide to have your players play against Cena instead of playing as Cena in the ring?
For me, there were two reasons for my approach. First of all, I definitely heard feedback that as his WWE superstar, he started to feel a little repetitive after playing 10-15 matches against whoever he was up against. So for a while, we’ve been thinking about ideas to allow players to manage a more diverse roster.
And since this is the second showcase that focuses on John, I wanted to cover his career in a different way than the previous showcases. After brainstorming ideas, I really liked getting in touch with his “Never Give Up” spirit. And I decided that by showing his defeat, I could really highlight that whole concept. This is certainly more important than showing him win these matches.
So the question became, “Does a player just play as Cena and lose every match?” Even if it was due to the loss of cutscenes, it seemed like too much. He’s like a repeat of the boss fight!” That led to ‘You Can’t Beat Me’ and that’s when it all came together for us.
Q: With so many matches to choose from, how did the team decide which matches to include?
Once players decided on the “You Can’t Beat Me” idea of controlling Cena’s various opponents, there were fewer matches to choose from. So, we looked at the various WWE Superstars of his who beat John Cena and tried to choose who among them would guarantee a spot.
Some have multiple wins against Cena, while others have just one. Edge and Randy Orton were his two biggest rivals throughout Senna’s career, and his win at ECW One in 2006 on his stand was one of the most memorable bouts of either man’s career. is one of his.
Finally, we hope that each match has historical significance, represents a legendary rivalry, or returns to a forgotten classic.
Q: Will players experience the same era-specific filters and visuals? 2K22?
Yes, we always do our best to match the in-game presentation with classic visuals. This can use filters and various lighting systems to give the ‘old school’ match a proper feel.
Q: Are there any special rewards for defeating Cena?
Players can expect to earn unlockable rewards throughout Showcase Mode! Just like in WWE 2K22, there are two types of rewards.
Match Rewards: Earned simply by winning a match, regardless of whether you complete 0 or all match objectives! Reserved for!
Objective Rewards: Earned by completing 100% of your match objectives. These are usually reserved for superstar models/outfits.
Q: Will there be variations in match strategy?
Showcases tend to change their match strategy solely for their mid-match objectives. I tend to be a player who uses a lot of combos and running attacks. Instead, Showcase asks you to try things you don’t always do, like specific grapples, submissions, or dealing tons of damage. It’s possible to play your style of match and win without completing any objectives, but you’ll lose a bigger reward if you do so. To truly “beat” Showcase, players must be able to complete objectives while fending off opponents who are always trying to win.
On top of that, players now use their new Superstars in nearly every match. In other words, it has no ability to remember specific movements. One minute it’s Kurt he’s Angle, the next it’s Batista and Triple H. We try to set goals that best align with our superstar approach (and to historical beats). Like RVD, you can see him attempting dives and extreme attacks, but Randy Orton is more methodical with his grapple.
