Most survival games start out the same way. You are standing alone in the wilderness with few supplies and equipment. Maybe he only has basic groceries and a bandage or two. They may also carry basic knives and axes. Often you set off wearing nothing but a dirty loincloth and have to quickly scavenge for food, water, and basic crafting resources.
So it’s a little unusual to find a survival game that you can start with nothing at all. to exclude Time Machine seems like it should be at the end of a very long tech tree, not the beginning.
But that’s what you get in the opening moments Grand emprise: time travel survivalAnd before long, you’ll use the time machine to travel through history, from the age of the dinosaurs, to the colonial era, to the present day, and even into the distant future.
Grand Emprise: Time Travel Survival is slated for release next month, but a free demo that’s part of Steam Next Fest will give you a taste of both the survival crafting system and the time-jumping adventure. I start my demo from what I believe to be the early days of the Earth. All I had was a hand-held time travel device and a suggestion to pick up stones to fix a broken machine. Grab some rocks from the beach and smash them into the time machine and you’ll be transported to the future (i.e. the future of the past) and the age of the dinosaurs.
As you can imagine, I was quickly eaten by a Tyrannosaurus Rex as I literally had nothing but a time machine with dead batteries. But all is not lost! After respawning, I took a peek at the tech tree to learn how to recharge the time machine to get out of there. I won’t go into the details, just that I brutally beat a friendly Triceratops to death with my collection of stones, and used that delicious raw dinosaur meat to lure a Utahraptor to ride on my back and race across. keep it in mind. As you make your way through the island and go deeper into the cave, you find a time portal that leads to a mysterious ancient temple.
Yes, everything is a little strange, but it won’t be long before I can travel to another era, at which point I will be killed by an angry hippo. Wherever I go in time, I seem to be bitten to death by large land animals.
I’m not too far into the Grand Emprise yet, but it’s pretty ambitious given the expected range of eras and technologies, from forging iron tools to managing primitive colonies, besieging castles, and conquering space travel. I feel that it is targeted. And it seems like I can carry my craft from one era to another, so if I want revenge on that tyrannosaurus that ate me, I could go up against him with a gun or a biplane.
